Your truck has DPF issues too I see.

My old Mack always had the lightning bolt lit.

I did some scrolling but seems I may not have great photos of the semi.

Here is one of the dodge and the 10. It pulls well but burns more fuel than the semi and apparently costs more in maintenance.

I studied more last night. Might attempt a walk on to get my permit. If I can’t pass the written after the amount of work I put in, I have no business doing any of this.

Well, I’m legal behind the wheel now. Came close to failing the motorcycle test as it’s been decades since I last looked at that handbook. Only to find that that and the regular drivers test were waived after I got them all done. Hah.

Clock is now running, 6 months and then I can renew for another 6. I’ll put some effort into researching my options for training but for now being legal is a nice weight off my shoulders.

Might be different where you are but DMV examiners here are way more hard on you if you didn’t go thru a formal training.

Check out this website, the trucking truth. Lots of information and practice tests. That’s where I go to do practice test for renewing my hazmat every 3 years.

So, I was thinking about this, there probably isn’t any good way to get experience driving a rig outside of a training school or employment due to the large liability concern, right?

In essence, while I technically am legally allowed to practice, there aren’t really any viable options to me unless I pay to play?

I'm sure there some companies that will do OJT stuff... my old company did that. 3 of the now roll off drivers started in their portable toilet division as a class E driver. They wanted to be CDL Drivers and the boss man trained them... Paid for their CDL... And now they work as roll-off drivers.

But if you want to make truck driving a career then yes... I would look into going somewhere who will train you. I'm sure the family gig is good but I would expand your portfolio in the event that doesn't work out.

I can just see the look on my wife’s face if I tried to tell her that I’m going to change careers to haul portable toilets.

My bro in law wants to get a peterbilt for his second rig. I think he said 354 or something like that? I’m guessing clean used ones are a bit of a tricky find, why get rid of a perfectly good truck.

EDIT: after 5s on Wikipedia I’m thinking he said 389 since there is no 354

I did some recon yesterday with the local accredited trainer and got some leads for mom and pop training. Going to dive into that today when not on perpetual zooms.
