This may be an odd question but I’ll ask anyway.

What kind of pants do you guys like best while doing a ~28h drive?

I’ve been rolling in jeans the last few which works well for doing horse stuff but isn’t perfect for sleeping.

So I am wondering if maybe there is a stretchy tactical pant choice I’m not aware of.

    None....j/k, or am I? :notsure:
That long of a drive I would rock some sweats or shorts.

I just wear dickies work pants. They allow movement and are lighter weight than jeans. I also like the cargo pant style with a cell phone pocket. They have 2 different kinds of fabrics, I don't like the stretch kind, too hot in the summer. We can't wear shorts at work.

Thank God we didn't get as much snow as they where calling for. What we did get was of the heavy wet slushy variety.
    Hopefully a better day today.
    Be safe drivers.

I ordered up some brown dick(ie)s which probably won't get here in time for my next haul. Figure who doesn't need more brown dick(ie)s, amiright? Went with relaxed fit b/c most pants are too damn tight in the thighs on me, interested to see how they fit. Thanks for the fashion advice.

My day has gone to shit! Another driver flagged me down at a light and told me I didn't have any brake lights. Snow day here, it could have been bad. Part is on national back order. Back in a rental truck. Still got 2 stops to go. Gonna be a 13 or 14 hour day. And then when I get home I still have to clear my snow.
    Grrrr.

Wasn't too impressed with the International I was supposed to grab yesterday, soooo, maybe I should just buy something and do the O/O thing?
Or stay home in bed... I'm torn!

I've come close to doing that a couple of times. But I like not having the stress of being an o/op. Breakdowns, maintenance, etc. I like to close the door on my truck and walk away and forget all about it until the next day. O/op isn't for everybody. But I have thought about it. Right now I have 3 years to go until retirement, so I think I'll let somebody else keep the headaches and stress.

I was o/o for 4 years, it wasn't easy. When the economy took a shit in 08 I was lucky to work 1-2 month, I had to get out. This was construction end dump work.

I think I would find it hard to make time for repairs and maintenance(life begins for me as soon as I get the truck parked at the end of the day), trucking industry seems to want there workers to pull 70 hrs/week to be considered a full time job... but I still would enjoy keeping a rig set up, looking nice and running great, be kinda like setting up a Tacoma just the way you wanted to. About 9 yrs for me to retire, that'd be enough time to run the wheels off a 345,000 mile truck if I'd get into on now.

I was thinking tesla semi might change the o/op game a bit? Reduce the maint side, plus a really nice driving experience you don't get with a "here's the keys" type of job, limits your range to a reasonable haul, home every night, presumably easier driving due to tech and torque advantages. Then sell it off at the end of the 8-10 years and make back some of the initial investment.

    All armchair thinking though.

I like the idea of a diesel over electric hybrid like locomotives run, rolling coal to crank the generator to power the drives! best of both worlds and have great range!
edit: should get some sort of weight exemption cause the green energy thing ya know, being electric

Question for you truck drivers but first some background...
    • I give plenty of space to big rigs as 80,000 lbs going 75 MPh doesn't exactly stop on a dime
    • I'll flash the brights or cycle the lights to indicate the trailer is clear of my front bumper and it is safe to come over into my lane when a rig is passing and looking to get over
    • I'll look ahead at merging traffic from an on ramp to give space for the rig as it gets up to speed and merges on the freeway
What else do I need to consider? I ask because I am picking up a small travel trailer and re-gearing my Taco to 5.29s which means I'll be at 65 - 70 MPh highway speeds max on I-80 and I-26 that have 75 and 80 MPh speed limits. It is a Vorsheer XOC so I'm not concerned about aerodynamics - it being a tear drop at 3500 lbs fully loaded. I am cognizant of truckers and the deadlines you all are under and want to do everything I can to share the road and respect people who make a living on it. Any suggestions or tips to make my life (and yours) easier as you make your living and I make my way from place to place?
