    I don't know why I wasn't driving 20 years ago.

    As far as ranting...
No body knows how to let other trucks pass.
Fed-ex, dump trucks drive to fast and aggressive.
Most are always in a rush but when I see them get out of the truck on their feet they move at a snails pase!

Oh yeah I love off-roading this rig!
I know it's a bad idea but I have to know what I'm capable of.
I stay out of mud but dirt, rocks, ditches, holes...I put to the test!
I have a locking rear diff on the truck which helps:thumbsup:
1 time I had the tractor downhill on a left lean and the trailer with the load was on an uphill with a right lean going over a gravel pile like 3 feet high, it was awesome.
I wanted to get out and take a pick but I didn't want to stop my momentum!

Bins stacked 3 high right down the middle and we don't tie them down. 59k on this load. Only thing it gets is a strap across the back which really doesn't do anything but looks OK for the d.o.t, lol. You make your turns very slow, especially once you lift your drop axle. And people want to pull in front of me and brake check me, not understanding that I can't go fast, I can't speed up, and I definitely can't stop!
But it's a living. Picking up another load just like this one now.

This seems to be a recurring problem in the trucking industry. There is no work life balance. I finally found a decent company to work for, average about 10 hours a day so I'm good with that, and every other Saturday for about 5 or 6 hours. So I get some overtime for a big boy paycheck and still have a life at home. But I never turn down overtime, I learned a long time ago to take it when it's there because it may not always be. Over the road is not for everyone either, you better be single or you will be eventually. Some guys make it work with their spouses though and they are fortunate. It put me into a divorce.
As I get older 12 and 14 hour days just suck! I don't want to do it anymore, that's why I'm happy where I'm at now, hopefully this will last until I retire and go part time with work. Trucking isn't for everyone, but I have always enjoyed it and still do. I'm glad I found local work that gets me home everyday and allows me to have a life too.

I'm still trying to manage this...
Luckily I have an awesome wife and no kids.
But I am still learning and figuring things out.
I do know if I work at another factory doing whatever it's not going to be good.
Nothing is perfect, always pros and cons to everything.

Funny story about that... My previous employer which was a roll-off company... we had a driver that lived out of town but still in the western edge of the service area. He got to take truck home because of that... one day his was broke down and had to ride all day with another driver... who at the end of the day took him to the shop to pick up his rig. It was about 6:30ish and he had the gall to tell the boss it was pathetic that he hadn't made it home yet. Our boss took that real personally... so the boss told him when he had a 9-5 schedule to offer... he'd call him.

He never got fired... in fact his company profile has a note that said "needs 9-5 schedule"

My current trucking job seems to be the best fit for my life. 5am til... which most days is around 5pm. Funny thing is... I hear a bunch of my coworkers gripe about the hours. When I was in the roll off business... I'd be lucky to be in the gate by 7 most nights.

I like being at the dinner table by 6. And... best part of this job... it stays at work.

    Like, so many.
I don't know anything at all about trucking, but this seems like a monumentally bad idea.
