A recent development, I got new rear Duratracs and started experiencing what I thought to be a bit of tread squirm. But now that I'm on a road trip to NM, it's really bad and unstable through corners. So I'm thinking the shocks took a shit. I have 75k on some 5100's. Is that about their service life? Front Toytec Boss shocks seem fine.

I'm not too loaded down, but I have the kids and my wife and some stuff in the bed. Wife is driving and she feels very uncomfortable going much past 70-75.

    Thoughts?

    Working on it.
It is not an official test but if you push down on one of the corners and let up it should not bounce and should "settle" almost instantly. If you are getting bounce that strut is shot. Also look for any leaking. You can also jack up each wheel and check you ball joints. If you feel unsafe take it to a shop/deal to be looked at. You don't want your road trip to end in an accident. Let us know what you find. Good luck.

Guessing you'll find the tires were inflated to max pressure (shown on the sidewall) not the correct operating pressure (shown in your door jamb)

Even if I'm wrong, it can't hurt to double check them.

Load range C 265 75 16. I'll stop and check pressure but discount usually has me out at 32 lbs.

Lower ball joints, are good I replaced them 60k ago. (Not exactly fresh, but they are OEM and the originals went to 120k and were still appeared "decent". This is definitely a sloppy rear end. Feels like a loaded diaper back there. I'll be in Angel Fire for a week. I may have some shipped out express and have a local shop slap them on.

I'm with the no accidents while on vacay. Last time I was out here my sister in law ran us off the side of the mountain on an atv and ended us up in the hospital. Me with a broken clavicle and needed surgery and a titanium plate.

If you're talking about rears only, you can change them yourself in less time that it would take to drive to the garage and place your request.

If they are standard load tires try 32psi, if load range c they should be closer 40psi. That would be cold tire pressure, not hot.

So we made it. Just checked pressure and it was at 44 lbs?!! That explains a lot. I'll give her a test drive in the am. I took them down to 32. Dang Discount Tire...
