Fair enough, must be regional. I typically see a 35% to 40% deduction in the value for a branded title on vehicles I total.

Hey guys, sorry on the delay I was at work. But I got a call from the insurance company with the amount they will pay me, I asked about a buy back and she said it would be around $5000 although she didn't know the exact number yet.

I kinda want to share the break down of the extras that they are paying me for. The two things that really get to me are the fact that my "deluxe truck cap" is only worth $200 which is laughable... and I guess I should have had my interior detailed before I took it in to get inspected that cost me $651... I guess of course I feel like its inaccurate.I guess what do you guys think, I kinda want to push the issue and really get something back that is more close to what it might cost to replace my truck.

    Base Vehicle Value $ 14,747.00
    Condition Adjustment - $ 651.00
    Adjusted Vehicle Value $ 14,096.00
    Vehicular Tax (9.5%) + $ 1,339.12
Tax reflects applicable state, county and municipal
    taxes.
    Total $ 15,435.12
The total may not represent the total of the settlement as other factors (e.g. license and
fees) may need to be taken into account.

    VEHICLE ALLOWANCES
    Package 1: Sr5 + 326

    Privacy Glass Package 1 + 100
    Fog Lamps Package 1 + 75
    Trailer Hitch Reported + 100
    Rear Sliding Window Package 1 + 100
    Bedliner Reported + 150
    Grill Guard Reported + 100
Deluxe Truck Cap Reported + 200

    COMPONENT CONDITION

    Condition Inspection Notes Value Impact

    INTERIOR
Seats MAJOR WEAR light color seats soiled. - $ 358
Carpets MAJOR WEAR light color carpets heavily soiled - $ 293

Also I would like to thank everyone that has responded to this thread, it has been immensely helpful!

Wow, -$650 for the condition of the interior...........The insurance companies are always going to take you for the proverbial "ride, sorry you're having to deal with this. But as someone who has dealt with a similar situation in the past, let me say this, as I looked into the same options you are currently considering: in the short run if you buy that truck back, you may think you are winning, but if you think about the long term potential unseen problems and little tweaks that you or even a professional mechanic/ body shop professional can't see now nor might ever be able to identify, it's just not worth it. The truck has been severely compromised.

It's such a bummer to let it go. We love our trucks so much, put so much more effort and care into keeping them tight and dialed, and then some jackass who isn't paying attention takes that all away. It's a mess, but the good news is, there's nothing like buying a new truck!

I totaled my 17 real real good. Insurance actually paid me more than the sticker price! I am really happy with my 2015 though, I may like it more than my 17. Good luck with your situation!

Hey so here are some more pictures of the frame that I grabbed on Monday.
    20190304_092048.jpg 20190304_115058.jpg 20190304_092055.jpg 20190304_092048.jpg

So I am debating on just buying it and keeping it until the wheels fall off then sell it or part it out. or both. Just to keep myself from having another car payment.

im under the impression if you buy it back it will have a clean title still (could be wrong). but if not you will have a salvage title . ks recently (at some point?) started making you show paperwork for what was fixed/replaced to go from salvage to rebuilt.

I'm not seeing any bends in your frame at all from those pictures. Do you think you could be a bit more descriptive about what they're complaining about? I think they're definitely trying to pull a fast one, I have no doubt that that frame is fine and TOTALLY SAFE.

When the frame on these trucks get bent from being rear ended, the damage is between the rear spring mount and the trailer hitch. That segment of the frame bends DOWN. In your pictures (in particular, the second picture), that segment of the frame is *perfectly straight*.

EDIT: Here, I drew you a diagram describing how these trucks exhibit rear-end damage. Red circle is around the segment that crumples, and arrow shows where the end of the rails go.

That is what I am thinking, they never specified where the frame was bent. The only thing I could find and kind of expected was some sort of notation on the frame itself hence the green dots.. I was looking at the repair quote and found that they were basically going to replace a bunch of the bed and repaint a bunch of stuff. I will post the paper work here soon.

Here is the quote, seems like so much more than I would have expected. And I don't think "fixing" the frame is on here. I guess I missed the part where they were going to completely replace my canopy.

Yeah, doesn't look like frame damage. If the real cost is replacing the canopy, tailgate and the box itself, it's probably worth buying it back or keeping it and finding the parts yourself. If you're happy with the way the truck runs and drives, then I could see why you would want to keep it. Tailgates are on Craigslist and FB Marketplace all the time, the canopy you could take time looking for a good deal. The box might be the toughest part to deal with.

Hey @YoungRed08 : No indication in this thread about the severity of damage to the bed, however, it is made of FIBERGLASS, which actually makes it pretty easy and inexpensive to repair.

There's also a whole lot of miscellaneous bullshit in that quote. Lots of parts that are associated with the tailgate that you would get with a craigslist tailgate. You can use a $20 aftermarket camera instead of the $500 oem one (or leave it out altogether), and pick up a used back bumper from someone who bought an aftermarket bumper. Bet you can get the total repair price down to $1000 or less if you DIY. Well, minus the hat.

And actually, the existing back bumper doesn't even look all that badly damaged. Nothing is visible from the picture, so you can probably just grab it and pull it back into shape.

Yeah so as far as I could tell the only issue with the bed was where the hinge points were for the tailgate, other than that the side panels were fine as well as the fiberglass bed portion which didn't even scratch. As for the camera it was already a cheapo aftermarket one haha so I have idea why they would charge $500 for a $20 part other than to take the insurance to the cleaners. The bumper was also fine, not even a dent on it nor was the plastic on top of it damaged. The Lady that hit me was in a very lifted truck so she hit me square on the tailgate/canopy window. And that leads to the last thing is the canopy which isn't damaged in the slightest accept the window which just taking a shot in the dark but I would imagine a new window would only be a few hundred bucks. If I pick it up here soon I will try and get some more pics of the inside of the bed.

I'm not in the insurance biz, but my guess on why they seem to total out more vehicles these days is that they make out better if they do. Remember, they want to make money and don't really care about you. If they total a car that isn't in bad shape, they make more when they sell it and cut the margin between what they paid and what they get paid. If they work it right, I suspect they can slice that margin pretty thin.

I wonder if they think the value for the vehicle isn't high enough because of the higher mileage on it. Did your insurance company even ask you if you wanted to keep it? Regardless of the mileage, you know how the vehicle runs/drives and what maintenance was does so it has more value to you vs someone else looking for a used truck.

He mentioned above that he inquired about buyback and they ballparked it at $5000. That, along with a settlement of $15,435.12 and repair estimate of $9523.45. That leaves a difference on the table of $911.55, which is too slim of a margin for them to take on the risk of the repair price going higher. Now *we* know that an honest repair of that damage will cost way less than the estimate, so OP can take the cash payout of $10,435.12, keep the truck, and everybody drives away happy.

I'm not sure if Toyota does the same thing. I'm sure those being manufactured in Japan probably makes it trickier. I'm also not sure of the buying process. I will say, I rode in one recently. 50k on the odometer, it sounded and felt like it was falling apart.
