Title pretty much sums it up.

The truck starts making a groaning noise after i shift in reverse. Backing up and while stopped holding the brake. Noiss stops as soon as I shift out of reverse. It sounds sort of like when your disc brakes are dirty so they groan for a while.

Happened after I fluid filmed the undercarriage and installed reinstalled my T case skid plate…
Not sure what it could be.

    any ideas?

    thanks guys,
    Adam

It’s hunger pains. Feed your truck.

Maybe low transmission fluid on a low temp start up? I had weird transmission shifting issues during cold mornings that went away when the fluid heated up. Found out I was low a quart on fluid.

Sounds like a dragging parking brake. Did you disturb the parking brake cables?

Well, if we just go by the "deltas" that you mentioned; I would not think spraying fluid film on your undercarriage would cause any sort of binding or sound issues. So I would lean towards the skid removal / re-install being the culprit. But even then I don't know! Previous comment on your parking brake cable might be worth looking into.

That’s probably it, i had to sandwich on of the skid’s mounting plates between the brake cable bracket and the frame

any idea on how to fix it?

Are the cables still kinked or bent by the skid plate after the install?

There is some sort of turnbuckle adjustment that loosens both cables located inside your center console. I’ve never seen this first hand, but had a similar problem with my parking brakes after a lift. The Toyota spec is “7 clicks” until the handle is firm for the parking brake, according to the Toyota mechanica who diagnosed my problem. If you have less than this, or the handle feels loose, you may be binding your cables, or it could be something else entirely.

When I had my issue, the handle was only 3-4 clicks until tight.

I’ll just mention as well, if you parking brake is dragging slightly, your rear wheels will always be warm from the frictional heat, even when you haven’t been hard braking.

Let us all know when you figure out what is causing it. Hopefully this isn’t a wild goose chase looking at the brakes.
