Exactly, everyone knows Toyota updated the frames on the 3rd Gens and are basically rust proof.

The whole rusty frame issue is so 1st and 2nd gen.

Wait a minute, don't they all use the same frame?

Fuck it I roll a LC.

Where'd I say it's not a 3rd gen issue too? I can acknowledge my trucks short comings and don't live in bubble like 2nd gen guys.

The 2 g lasted a long time and was still a top seller. Really, the 3 gs are the same truck with just a more efficient engine and trans and better electronics. Imo, the 3 g will be gone in about two years. The new Tundra has assured that. Toyota can’t have one of their biggest sellers that badly outclassed by another of their own products.

Ha ha, exactly. The whole truck isn’t much different and frame rust seems to be following the Tacoma around like a puppy dog.

Frame rust is an issue in the rust belt with every make of truck made with an exposed frame. The Tacos are no different. They all require yearly inspection and treatment if you plan to keep it much past your bank payments. It’s not hard. Just plan on getting down and dirty for 30 -40:minutes every year. It’s hilarious listening to Truck owners who wash and wax their trucks, complain about frame rust and never crawled under the truck for years.

Toyota scammed every one . The 3 g is has nearly the same as the chassis as 2g with a little more refinement . It will rust just as badly

Shooooot….Toyota has had the market cornered on rust long before Tacomas were a twinkle in Kevin Hunter's eye…

All trucks are made like Shit when it comes to rust prevention. It shows up more with Toys because it’s more out of step with the mechanics which last so much longer to expose it. A friend bought a GMC diesel for $60 k only to have the frame fail inspection because of frame rust in less then eight years.

Growing up in PA, you were considering lucky to get 10 years out of vehicles because of rust. Had a 76 F250 that didn’t get much past 100K without the frame breaking in half. And it received heavy body work every two years since it was new. My 1st Gen Tacoma that I still have is an AZ truck still in great shape, even after moving to Idaho 7 years ago. Did start getting a little surface rust where the paint has been sand blasted off from running down FS roads all the time. Do get under there and hit with farm implement paint once a year.

Never had to use the frame replacement program, but did get the letter, which made think at least Toyota stands behind their product, guessing GM told your friend to go pound sand.

Exactly. Toyota and Honda National reps each paid for out of warranty services I had years ago on an accord and 4 runner. The dealers of each told me I could get results if I called them personally and not tried to work through the dealer for out of warranty repairs. They were right. Always got someone to listen and good results…..GM, you get a busy signal and a FU.

Because I rustproof yearly, my 10 year old vehicles look amazing.

My Taco is 4 years old with only 24k miles on it. No issues, no Recalls yet.....

Geez y’all have some good ass luck. I need to get myself a new, untouched Tacoma.

I’ve had my 2018 for a year did 12k miles. 22k on the odometer.

    so far I’ve replaced:
    -a seized fan clutch
    -passenger side tailgate hinge(warranty)
    -rotted hose clamps
    -rusty dip stick tube

    issues right now:
-driver door panel insert peeling, started creaking
-master window switch glitches out occasionally
-extreme rust on underbody, most bolts/screws seized(any suspension work is a PITA…no lift kit I guess)
-paint on hood above headlight chipping away
    -clear on roof fading
-driver side tailgate hinge starting to fail
-transmission is acting weird. Has stalled 2x within the last week. Step on pedal engine does nothing. Then gear engages slowly almost like it’s slipping but it’s not…because it works fine after.

either I got a defective Tacoma or the PO really molested the hell out of it. Whatever it’s a beater work truck now.

Exactly. It takes about 20 minutes to spray biodegradable oil in the body cavities and frame and another twenty minutes to “ paint “ red grease on most vulnerable areas of the frame, often near and around wheel wells.

My 2019 SR is my daily driver. It has about 25000 miles. No problems at all. My GM, ford, RAM, Jeep friends cannot say this.

On a Tacoma, most other Toyota's, and many other vehicles I'd agree. But not a blanket statement I'd make about all vehicles.

I bought my 2007 new almost 15 years and 220,000 miles ago. Other than normal stuff like brakes, tires, battery, and fluids, etc., the only part that didn't come from the factory is the alternator.
