I have a 96 Tacoma 2.4 engine. this morning I went out to try and start it and it would turn over but it would not start. it ran just fine the day before, I had no problems. I let it sit for a couple hours and then went back out and tried to start it and it was still doing the same thing. Any suggestions?!?!? :)

check your fuses in the dash and under the hood, your coils may not be getting power.

do you have a distributor? if so take the cap off and check it and test your ignition coil is firing

if the truck is cranking but wont start and you are getting fire check fuses and if that doesnt showm the problem pull the fuel pump fuse or the fuel injection fuse crank the truck about 8-10seconds put fuse back in and try starting the truck could possibly be flooded

also check your engine grounds, a broken or bad connection engine ground wire can kill power to the ignition coils

Have you checked the fuel pressure at the fuel rail? You can check it before and after the fuel pressure regulator. Not sure what the pressure should be for your truck, but if it's not in a specific range, the injectors won't operate. If you happen to be in the South East PA area, I have a gauge with adapters, but if not, you should have the pressure checked against what it should be to see where your problem lies.
Edit: Looks like the pressure before the fuel regulator for a 2.4L should be close to 70psi, can't find after the ruglator

if it turns over then confirm the air filter isn't blocked, then there are 3 things to check:

spark - confirm you get a sprk from each spark plug buy pulling them out and plugging the wires to them, then turn the enginre over and you should see a good blue or white spark from each.

coils - if you have no spark or the spark is yellow or seams weak it might be bad coils

gas - make sure you have fuel pressure by cracking loose the fuel line fitting where it exits the fuel rail at the front of the engine and if fuel squirts out your fuel pump and filter is ok. if you aren't sure then trun the engine over for a second to see if fuel squirts out.

if these 3 things check out then the last thing to check is engine compression.

If you have spark and fuel, check your timing belt. If your engine cranks over normal or a little faster than normal and it sounds like you have less compression, check the timing belt.

    Check your neutral safety switch.

    http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/1...66549-diy-neutral-safety-switch-cleaning.html

Also, you can bring your battery to a parts store like AutoZone or OReillys and they can test to make sure the battery has enough juice to crank.

Do you get a clicking? Flip on your high beams and then try to start - do your lights dim? If the lights do not dim a bit when you are trying to crank over then there is no load being pulled off the battery. This is either a connection issue or the nsw mentioned above.
