According to the factory service manual that is linked to on the 1st gen page, there are two wires going into the ignition switch. One is white and should have constant power. This is the wire you cut, it had power with the truck off and that is what caused the spark.

There are two fuses/fusible links between the battery and that wire. Both should be in the under hood fuse/relay box. One is 120amps and should be labeled alternator. The other is a 40 amp fuse and from what I can tell should be labeled AM1.

Sorry to be repeating what others have said, but if you have an airbag light on, then you have to have enough power to operate your clock. There has to be a blown fuse somewhere, or possibly a burned wire. I think you need to look really hard at that underhood fuse block.

Post up what you find, I am curious now!

This shows where all the fuses are powered from.

disconnecting the batter will not do anything at all most cars today have a device to store enough power for a week or so to run the ecm.

i have read somewhere that on these tacomas that if someone trys to still them the alarm system will shut down the computer and nothing will work (just so the truck cant be hot wired). So maybe by you cutting that power wire the viper alarm system thought someone was stealing the truck and shut down the computer. it makes sense if you think about it. A theft is going to want to shut down the alarm system and the fastest way of doing it is to cut its power wire. so maybe by you cutting it it shut down the computer and thats why your not getting anything... Im not saying that this is what happened but its the best i can think of. And im not sure how to get it fixed either.. but good luck man.

I still hope this could have been the problem, but I acctually started the car multiple times throughout the removal of the alarm system...I acctually started the entire car while the alarm was out, but it was that last stupid wire that I shorted and then something got fryed or melted im guessing

I towed it to my local stealership this morning to have them diagnose it, I triple checked all the fuses and traced the wire back as far as I could with no luck, so I gave up on it because I ran out of time to mess with it myself...

luckily I have a honda civic lil' rice rocket to drive around in the mean time...

    costs thus far:

$100 bucks for the tow...(will be reimbursed by insurance...luckily!)

and FREAKIN' $280 just for a base diagnostic fee...hopefully they find it out quick!

I'll keep you guys posted on what is happening with it, and what that solution is since I know some of you guys are a bit interested...

thanks for all of your responses and work finding those wiring diagrams!
