My truck keeps registering that the drivers side door is open.

If the keys are in the ignition the door will chime and the light is on. Light is on "door".

If the keys are out of the ignition the light stays on and light is on "door".

I have started the truck, turned it off and the chiming will stop and the dinging will stop for about 20 minutes and then will come back on.

Not sure what is going on. All doors are very clearly shut and nothing is in the door. Keys are out of the ignition.

Any ideas what is going on?

Any help is appreciated. I'm at a loss with electrical stuff.

    SOLVED:
I removed the AMP Research steps and since doing that I have had no more issues with this.
Even though the steps were unplugged from the battery because the motor had failed it must have caused a short or issue with the door sensors.

Could one of the door pins be bad?

It is in the door jam covered by a little rubber boot. You cant miss it.

Over the years, when the temps get really low (usually 0, or below), my door contacts will flake out intermittently. Interior lights flicker on while driving, door ajar, etc. Never fixed it, as it happens very rarely. I assume it's something in the contact contracting slightly due to the cold.

    Totally incorrect. A door is a door..NOT a jar!

    Oh, you mean door open..whoopsie.

But seriously, what he said about the pin.

    What is this pin?

Also I will say the light of the car with the key inside of it under the radio, is flashing. No key is in the ignition.

Yup, you'll know you have the right piece when the lights go out when pressed in.

    Beat me to it JaCado!

My passenger door gets stuck occasionally since I rarely use it.

    OK. That's called the pin.

If it's bad how do I know? Lights go off but come back on 20 minutes later when no one has touched the doors.

    Looks picture perfect.

am I OK to just shut the light to off? or is my battery likely still draining on something still on?

I can start pulling the truck apart tomorrow making sure I don't have a bad wire somewhere.

    Thanks for your help

I would just pull the negative on the battery until you can get it resolved.
Edit... most likely the plunger is bad on it and will need replaced.

I think that a while after the doors are closed, the ECM goes to sleep. If you just turn off the dome light at the light, the ECM won't go to sleep and the battery will go dead. I'm 90% sure that the door switch completes the circuit to ground when you open the door. If that's the case, removing the 1 screw and unplugging the switch should make the truck think the door is closed. Just make sure you don't lose the wire in the door jamb.

BTW, the key/car light below the radio is supposed to flash when the key is out. That lets the tweakers know that your truck requires a chipped key to start.

Ok. So if I unplug the sensor for the drivers side door and the light stays off, that indicates that particular switch is obviously broken?

I have the AMP Research power running boards, so my drivers door and driver's side passenger door are linked. The problem could exist in either door.

From the factory, the left and right door switches are separate. The left one makes the key dinger ding. The right one does not. Don't know what somebody did with your power steps.

The driver's door and drivers side back door talk to each other. Not the two separate sides. Doors on the same side. my previous comment was confusing.
