Truck left on idle for 2 hours

That's my point. You still HAVE a key (or fob). It's a push button start, not a "keyless" car operation.

 

The Truck won't let you lock the doors if it is still running. So when you try and lock the doors you get a beep telling you the engine is still running.

 

Exactly. As for shutting off when it doesn't sense the smartkey, do you really want that to happen to you (or your wife) in the seventh lane of the interstate surrounded by 75MPH traffic?

Old job coworker left a ford ranger running from friday afternoon till Tuesday morning, and he just filled the tank. No issues with the truck.

However, a month later he was rushing to get to a bathroom, ran off the road jumped 15' into a vineyard and then $hit his pants, truck was totalled.

I still don't get it. Does the issue lie where the physical key or keychain it's connected to is placed at?

Our patrol vehicles run constantly. We have 2016 model year vehicles with over 5,000 idle hours on them. I wouldn't even begin to worry.

 

I'm not the one who forgets to shut off their vehicle.

By the way, in case it wasn't clear:

 

Me saying "I don't get it" and it meaning how people can forget to shut off their vehicle with a push button start and asking if the issue is where they have their physical key at (ie: pocket, cupholder, dash, wherever). And since they're used to a key or keychain dangling to the side of the steering column, that automatically means car is off when the key is not dangling in said location?

 

I've left work vehicles running multiple times for long periods of time. No problems with them. Knowing I do it with work vehicles also makes me feel comfortable doing it with my own truck.

 

We do 24/7 emergency services and have contracts with the city municiplaitys etc, lets just say once it hits -15 or colder the van doesnt turn off. Literraly let it run for days nights weekends etc, if we get a call have to be there asap. Moral of the story... you will be fine.

 

I call BS, you were hoping somebody would steal it.
