Like others, I'm very cautious about the surging problem. I have a narrow garage with the furnace on one side and my passenger side view mirror misses the furnace by a few inches when I pull in.

At my free 5K service, I noted the surge problem. Here's what my dealer found: "Customer states vehicle surges when cold. Compared to like model when cold. No abnormal operation found at this time. No corrective action needed at this time."

What a silly methodology! It's like saying -- 'We compared owner's red truck with a like red truck and concluded that both are red.'

When I take the vehicle in for its 15K service, I want to 'up the ante' on this with the dealer. What's the best approach? If enough of us put the dealer on notice about this problem, emphasizing the safety concern, maybe Toyota will eventually take it seriously and come up with a fix. Maybe wishful thinking, but what else is there?
