Haha My BF teases me cause I love my truck so he calls it all kinds of mean names. He will tell me to move the 'ugly red toy truck' and I call his duramax the big ugly truck, its all in fun I know he really likes my truck.

Red is my favorite color, so Impulse Red is the most awesome color there is.

 

Shell “Autotude” Survey Reveals What People Think About Their Vehicles and Driving

Survey finds more than 75 percent of Americans have bonded emotionally with their autos
A new Shell “Autotude” Survey reveals that American drivers think of their autos as more than just a piece of machinery. The survey shows Americans believe their vehicles have unique personalities (67 percent), would make them proud in front of their boss (64 percent) and can even score them a date (60 percent). Plus, there are regional differences in drivers’ “autotudes.” While most of the country views their cars and trucks as simply a way to get from point A to point B, drivers in the Farm Belt states (from North Dakota down to Kansas and Missouri) the Outer South (from Texas to Virginia) and New England say they actually enjoy and look forward to driving.

The survey had respondents describing their autos with language once reserved for children and pets. Here’s what respondents divulged:

• Vehicles have personalities, too. Two in three American drivers believe their cars have a personality and most respondents agreed that they had a “strong emotional bond” with their vehicles (56 percent). Additionally, more women (66 percent) than men (56 percent) feel their personality is similar to their vehicles’. And 21 percent even admitted to patting their dashboards like a pet.
• Flush with pride or embarrassment? Most Americans (64 percent) say they would be proud of their autos if they had to give their bosses a ride and only 15 percent say they’d be embarrassed. Southerners are the proudest with more than 70 percent saying they’re happy to show them off.
• He-Car, She-Car. Nearly half of drivers think their vehicle has a gender, with 60 percent of vehicles viewed as female and 40 percent viewed as male. Of those with a gender, vehicles in Southern states are more likely to be female, while autos in the Midwest are more likely to be male.
• The name game. While most respondents say their cars have personalities (67 percent), surprisingly few Americans drivers have a name for their vehicle (15 percent). However, one in five people who live on the West Coast say their cars and trucks do have a name and 28 percent of those who name their vehicle say they chose a name based on someone they know.
• Can your pick-up pick up a date? Those lucky in love may have their auto to thank since 60 percent of Americans believe cars can be “chick or dude magnets.” Sports cars are the most attractive overall (46% percent), while SUVs turn heads in the Deep South (22 percent) and Mountain (25 percent) states and pick-ups have fans in the Great Lakes and Pacific states (15 percent each).

 

Yeah....Started naming my cars when i bought my scion....She's Toy- cause I play with her non-top.

The CBR is RHonda- She's a red honda- and there was no way I was riding a bike named like a guy.

The Taco is Corbin- My wife picked that one...After corbin dallas from the 5th Element- Lil rough around the edges but generally badass.

 

Our Tacoma is named: "The Wiggle Wagon". It's derived from the nick-name of our Therapy dog, Emma. She is also called Miss Wiggles, because her butt is always going (happy tail wagging). The Tacoma is Emma's favorite vehicle out of our three, so when we take her out, it's a ride in the "Wiggle Wagon".

 

Great article. My personal theory is that for all of human history, our mode of transportation has been a sentient being (horse, camel, elephant...) that we can bond to, and that really does have a personality. Naturally, we want that same relationship out of our vehicles.

 

My niece actually told me it was Cookie Monster Blue once.... it was infront of the rest of the family and it stuck.

 

Naming inanimate objects is ghey, imo of course.

 

yeah i name em. well actually other ppl name them and i just end up going along with it. My old 3/4 ton ram my dad referred to as animal cuz it growled at him or something and the gf seems to think my taco should be named ralph I'm not to sure of that one though

my jeeps named Maxine, my friends told me i was treating it like a woman, so i made some jokes by yelling at it and that was the first name that came to my mind. my friends then forever called it that to mock me, and now its kinda stuck.

when i get my taco, i wanna name it something awesome....

like,
killtruck engage, the killmatic killtruck,killgasm,TaKILLma, Yoda Von murdertruck,

or... skip.

I always refer to my truck as "My Truck" but she does have a name and its Dagny after Dagny Taggart from Atlas Shrugged. I got my truck around the same time I finished the book and Dagny is my hero! also the company Taggart Transcontinental logo is TT.... Toyota Tacoma...TT It fit

 

I'm so in that percentile. I generally only do that if I've done something bad to her and want to make it up, or if she's done some good work for me she gets and affectionate pet on the dash.

I've actually hugged the hood in a parking lot and told the truck I love her.

Ah yes...how I love my beastie.

So I am not wrong naming my Garmin but too bad I told my passengers that voice is my wife's.

Yes I'm a motor coach operator (chater bus driver).

 

When i got my truck the movie cars was out, a week later my g/f had to tow her car with my truck formaly naming it mater. It was funny my truck had barley 300 miles on it and she is towing a car 23 miles with it.

 

There's your answer.

 

No name here. they have to earn a name.

 

My kids usually name my cars, my taco name is Timmy??? don't ask my daughter came up with the name. most of our vehicles have girl name expect Timmy
