    Hey Taco Community,

I wanted to ask you guys before I bring it to the shop.

4High drives completely fine. Drives a little weird with the axels crossing with very wide turns, but that is normal with 4WD.

When I switch to 4LO, it's like I can hear the engine revving, but it's only giving the wheels 10-20% of power.... Almost feels like the parking brake is on...

Does anybody know whats going on?

I could've sworn I've used the 4LO before just fine, but just last time I tried it, the wheels weren't getting any power.... 4HI works just fine.

Any help, or advice is great!

That's about what 4lo is supposed to feel like. Low gearing multiplies torque, not power. What situation were you using it in?

I am pretty certain you don’t need to be in 4wd low for whatever you are using it for since you already have no idea how it works and what it does.

I’d say what you’re experiencing is normal, I’ve had my truck well over a year and used 4 low once or twice to make sure it works. It shouldn’t act “normal” in 4 low.

That sounds normal. Whenever I use it I’m a little surprised at how different the gas pedal feels.

And I have to say, this thread proves that there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

What do you think it's supposed to do in 4 low?

Sounds normal, 4LO means LOW and SLOW. Make sure you come to a complete stop, put truck in neutral then switch from 4HI to 4LO.

Welcome to TW, sorry people are dicks. 4 low reduces the gearing at the transfer case for low speed crawling. Meaning in first gear at 3,000 RPM's you'll be going like 2 mph vs 10 mph. You'll hit the gas, the engine will rev quickly and you'll crawl very slow. This is good for low speed technical off-roading, such as rock crawling.

In short, what you're experiencing is normal.

Think of a mountain bike or road bike, 4Low would be the equivalent of th little Crank gear on the front sprocket and the big gear on the Rear sprocket of the bike climbing hills.
    read your manual.
