I found a complete set of doors at a junkyard in Arizona while visiting my son. The doors look like brand new! Getting them home back to Iowa required renting a mini van and driving home. A 2 hour flight home became a 22 drive home. I have a very understanding wife.

The plan is completely repaint the truck doors. If I can’t fully match the colors I may completely repaint the whole truck. I’ve always wanted to do this since the original Toyota paint finish is garbage single stage. I’m still going to keep the truck white but I’m going to with a 2-stage paint and clear coat.

I’ve never painted anything this big. I’m used to painting motorcycle gas tanks and other miscellaneous body work.

The original doors were starting to develop rust on the bottom. I was going to fix the original doors but I came across the doors in Arizona. These doors don’t have a hint of rust. Once the doors are broken down I will chemically dip the doors then immediately spray the doors in epoxy primer. They will never rust.

My biggest concern: I’m knee deep in restoring my 85 RZ350. Currently I’m halfway through the RZ. I probably won’t start on the truck until the bike is done.

Remember, when you chemically dip car parts, EVERY INCH of paint and mastic is removed, including all of those hidden places you probably will never get paint to. Those are the places that welcome corrosion immediately. I would skip the chemical dipping part.
