I think it's valid. After skynet EMP's the area and Z-day arrives, who wouldn't want a working taco?

The only terrorists are in and run our own government taking away our sovereignty. Trust me the last thing you need to worry about is some guy in a cave 12000 miles away.

The actual blast would be short lived but it damages the electronic components so it would be rendered useless.

A simple mod for your truck would be to load all your personal belongings into the bed and move into the mountains. Then when the EMP comes, your truck will be fine.

Nope the only protection is to swap the motor out with an old diesel Land Cruiser if at all possible.

Those guys 12000 miles away in a cave do a damn good job 12000 miles away. Try not to turn this into a political thread. As I said earlier, these people in the caves are very very resourceful and make due with what they have and they are doing pretty well with items we would throw away and cast not a second thought about.

    Again, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE PEOPLE!!!!!!

Right. Seconds. All it really does is overload electrical systems with so much power they fry. Electron tubes are what the Russians use in their aircraft for EMP protection.

    Jesus, seriously?

Okay. All modern vehicles are designed to withstand significant electromagnetic fields, so they are somewhat resistant to EMP already. Moreso if they are off when the EMP occurs.

So, keep your hood shut, and make short trips. If you are really paranoid, disconnect the battery and short the main wires together while parked for additional protection.

Or you could take some steps to 'harden' the electronics further. How much do you want to spend? I suspect $100,000 would be enough to have a qualified company harden your Tacoma.

But really, why stop there? Terrorists could attack with nanobots that eat petroleum products like plastic, synthetic rubber, etc. You should probably do something to defend against them. Actually, a good EMP would probably wipe out a swarm of nanobots...

ETA: Here is a 2008 report. Read from page 112 or 115. Here is a report from the Federation of American Scientists that was prepared for congress.
