I have noticed, that most of the shifting complaints, suspicious lugging, gear hunting, and low torque feels of the 3rd Gen powertrain go away when I crank up the tunes. Either my perception of these “known issues” changes when I can’t here them actually happening (most likely), or the stereo volume knob actually changes the shift points and fuelling rate (a possibility).

    Anyone experience anything similar?

And none of these life changing "known issues" would even be noticed if people were reasonable in their expectations.

    For example,

There is a hill after a stop sign that I go up every day. Not a long or particularly steep hill but just long and steep enough that if I'm easy on the accelerator the truck will lug up the hill in 6th. And when it does I can sense some hesitation and or stuttering. Now I could scream and holler and call Toyota all sorts of dirty names or I can act like an intelligent adult and give the engine a bit more gas. The trans will downshift, rpms go up and all "known issues" magically go away. If people would just drive the damn truck and quit worrying about subtle nuances life would be better for all.

Hey, I didn’t go so far as to say it ran better when a certain song was playing. This might be the most illuminating thread you’ve ever come across if you take a moment to think about it.

It even mutes the dreaded howling monster who lives somewhere near the rear axle.

Funny thing is I have none of that Including the howling. I actually have to drive like a dumb ass to force the truck into the stuttering/hesitating mode.

If it’s loud enough you can’t here the truck beeping for “door open” or “no key detected” or “shift into P and turn off power”.....etc etc.

Turning up the volume actually solves ALL known complaints.

You knew all you have to do to stop all that so you can listen to music with the doors open is to push the door open sensor on the B column once, right? :)
