Sorry to hear about your truck! Sounds like you need to check into the previous owner more. Does anyone know if carfax would have caught this at all? The way the economy is going, their are going to be those who will do anything for money! Not to mention its xmas and all! Hope it all works out well for you ! :D

I've heard of a scam. The owner has the title, the auto is paid for. They apply for a lost title from the state that takes 60 days. After 30 days they get a title loan before that's due the new title comes in and they sell the auto.

Also I have a friend that sold his Tahoe on a Sunday to someone with fake Cashier’s Check's. His auto insurance co. did not want to cover it. He was one fo three people they scamed it ended up on the news. The insurance co. then covered it and they found the truck three weeks later. I don't remember the out come it was 4 or 5 years ago.

I just had to have a lost title issued by the state, and they do it on the spot. There is no 60 day waiting period.

    Dilsky,

When they came to seize the truck - did you look at any of the paperwork they have to report it seized? Did it have YOUR name on it? Or was it all in the previous owners name?

How could he buy the truck with out getting the title? I sold a Fat Boy in 03, the buyer gave me a bank check for the the total. I called the bank it was good. Then we went to my credit union I gave them a check for my ballance they gave me the title and I gave it to him.

    Sorry to hear this.
Not sure why the Toyota dealer should pay off the Tacoma. This is true if the guy traded in the Tacoma and the Tacoma sill carries a loan. Dealer should pay the balance to Toyota financing. Since he sold the car to you then then he should pay off the remaining loan.

Hmmm yea thanks, for all the suggestions. I am not sure what is goine on. The warrant for seizure had his name on it from Toyota Crediting since they had the original lien. I am still trying to work out the details and I will keep you guys posted, might be renting a vehichle for the ride home though. Sucks, I was looking forward to offroading in the snowy mountains.

Sounds like the original owner knew the repo was coming and unloaded the truck before it happened.

Hope you can get it straightened out without having to go to court. Takes months to get a court date and you'll be truckless until then.
