There was a simlar thread on TTORA. Guy complained and got a warranty from the shop (not toyota) that the motor would not fail in XXXX number of years/miles. 6 months later the motor shit the bed, and he got a new motor. Just wouldnt take the risk that your motor might not make it to 400k miles because of a accident like that. I would try like hell to get a new motor.

Sounds okay I guess. Do you think you'll put 75k on it in 7 years? Its the mileage you're worried about here, not age.

I just noticed that you are in Colorado, if you don't mind: which dealer did you go to?

the last time i took my truck in for an oil change, was when the freaking idiot didn't put a new oil filter in the process of an "oil change" so i take it back and they simply told me "I forgot". they put a new filter in it and no harm done. But the oil is something totally different. Your motor is toast. I would definitely demand a new motor put in it. from that point on i do all maintenance myself. There this oil valve called fumoto, which makes changing your oil a breeze, you should check it out.

Sounds like the right move. If it only idled, doubt there is any damage.

This way you have peace of mind, and nobody is going to tear your truck down unless it's absolutely needed. The guys at my dealer forgot to tighten the bolts holding my skid plate on when they changed my clutch. So far no other loose bolts have made themselves known, but I'd rather they not have had to pull that trans now.

Sounds like it should probably be okay. If you are still worried, I would get a compresion check and another oil change. You can check the oil and filter for (visible) metal chips. Newer vehicles could have some metal in the oil due to the break in period but it would not be visible without some type of oil sampling. With only idle for a short time, there is probably no seriouse damage due to the fact that the truck motor is already broken in. I would still be upset and not want that technition to even look at my truck anymore...probably take it in on his day off if he even has a job anymore. I would be a lot happier with the extended warranty that you got. I think you came out ahead.

Before the powertrain warranty expires, sell the truck back to the dealer. Problem no longer yours.

We used to have a '95 Lexus Ls400 (still a toyota). When it was a few years old we took it to get serviced and they forgot to put oil back in. We made it a few miles down the interstate before lights and alarms started going ape shit. Yes, a few miles down the road at 80 f-ing mph and a few miles back to the dealership. I put 250k miles on that car before I sold it last year and got my tacoma. In other words, my scenario was way worse, and I never had any problems result. I'd go for a warranty, but I don't think you need to go throwing wrenches at people.

This exact thing happened to me see my thread under "dealership forgot to put in oil at 6000Km" I was and am very upset I actually drove it for 10 or so KM at 80km/hr, when i saw the oil light i freaked out. In the end I made a case with toyota canada and got the engine boroscoped on all 6 cylinders by an independent and oil analysis checked ok. I also got free extended warranty ect. Truck still seems normal but peace of mind is gone.
