And that machine can pull the key code from the VIN in what way?

And ya... if it's a transponder key, they'd definitely need an uplink to Toyota to do it.

Either way, the dash panel just makes it easier.
But modern vehicles have the VIN plastered on half the parts. My '06 Silverado had the VIN on a 4x6 sticker on the side of the frame!

Well, thats for chop shops..it makes it harder to part out..i doubt the common thug will crawl all over the truck in a public place looking for the vin.

In general, it's not a great idea to post up your license plates.

But in this case, plate numbers might help members to keep an eye out.

Not to get off topic but still staying on topic and bumping the thread. Do you guys think thieves will steal vehicles looking more stock so they aren't easily "spottable", or do you think they look for modified vehicles because the upgrades and add ons?
this reminds me of when that 9" lifted red tacoma on 37's was stolen from his house in day time.

Which is why I have rewired the ignition to a convenient yet hidden location. It would buy me enough time to get brave to defend my wheels.

Sorry to hear about the truck.

With the transponder key system, the quickest way to steal it would be with a tow truck.

Anyone in the bay area see a late model Tacoma on a flatbed lately?

Hope you get it back in one piece.......or maybe it's well insured and you don't want it back?
