I met a guy who had his 2010 trd offroad stolen in WV last year.
Similar situation, glass broken, camera showing thief driving out
of the parking lot. Truck had an immobilizer, but no alarm stock
    truck.

There is obviously something we don't know about an
immobilizer work-around. Maybe someone in the alarm install
business can chime in. Should we be more concerned about
    this?

Totally possible. Had my keys stolen a few weeks ago while out a few hundred miles from home. Ended up having to get a lock smith. Took him 10 minutes to open my truck, remove the lock assembly which he used to make 2 chipped keys, reset the immobilizer system and I was on my way. With today's tech and the right equipment anything can be done.

Probably would have to have a dealership connection or a locksmith background for sure. This isn't something the average thug can pull off.

Yea I know what you mean they told us that the guy's just raised a red flag for some reason and checked the VIN's on all the parts the brought in, the parts that had VIN's on them, and they matched so the called the law and the law brought them in. It was a rarely heard about win for law enforcement.

Really sorry to hear about your taco OP. I hope you get your truck back in one piece.

I watched an episode on american underground or something on TV where these guys (pros) would pick the door lock, pop the hood, while one was picking the ignition switch the other guy would swap the computer on the truck to bypass the immobilizer with a computer that did not have an immobilizer. They were literally in and out in 30 seconds. I have tried to figure out a way they cant start my truck but those bastards think of everything!:frusty:

I'm hoping OP went to WalMart and asked them to check the cameras before they let the recording go.

Fucking assholes. That shit pisses me off. Not the same thing, but a week after I got done spending all day putting in a brand new sub, a brand new stereo and amp and running all the wiring to look perfect, shit got stolen along with all my cd's change and other shit I had in my truck. If I could go back in time that would be the night I would pick.

Sorry guys I don't go too much on the forums right now, too busy being stressed out over my ride. But I did ask Walmart to review security cams, and they said the area where I parked happens to not have cameras. I have full coverage so my insurance says, assuming they find it, the truck would have to be totalled for them to replace the whole truck. They spend on whatever is the cheapest route... Fix it up or replace the whole thing. Insurance says since Tacomas hold their value so well, 99% of the time they only pay for damages and not pay for the whole truck. I kinda don't want my ride back anymore. Most likely it was "treated like a rental" and won't be the same anymore if I do get it back. I don't go on here much right now so just PM me so I can notifications on my phone

You can always fix it and sell it. I'm sure it would sell here in the Bay Area no problem. Chin up, okay? Even if they don't find it, then you will get a new one. :)

Your insurance should give you a rental? Please don't look at the negatives. All you are doing is bringing yourself down even more.

The positives are that you are okay and didn't get carjacked and hurt. You can always sell the truck after it's fixed, or you will get a new one as a replacement. Either way you win. :)

Man that has to suck bad! I can sort of imagine the feeling as anyone who has come out of a store and couldn't find there vehicle either by not remembering where they parked or by having a larger vehicle park beside them blocking the view. Hell I've done this at work before, parked on the side of the building, parked in the same place for years so it was force of habit to come out the side door where I parked. On a couple of occasions had to park somewhere else and come out in my usual place after work (daily routine) and was like WTF? It is a sickening feeling and that was just a false alarm.

I had my bike stolen from me so I know its a tough feeling. I was in the dumps for 4 months thinking that it was being dismantled and sold for parts or scrap and I had $12,000 in it paid off and upgraded. Long story short 18 months later I got it back, in one piece and running. Some dumbass was riding it with the stolen plates and all still on it 10 minutes from my house and highway patrol stopped him for speeding.

Long story short look at the bright side at least you weren't hurt and it will come back or be replaced. The world is a shitty place as of late but keep your head up it sounds crazy but it could have been worse.
