Hello, my truck has periodically just stopped running while driving over the past year. When this happens it will turn over but won't fire. After a few hours of sitting it will start right up and drive fine for months at times. There's no codes being displayed. I've taken it to my mechanic several times and to the toyota dealership I bought it at and nobody can figure it out. Has anyone else had this happen? What should I do?

Do nothing, have it towed immediately to your mechanic so they can diagnose while in a non running condition.

Or trade it in while it's running.

x2..When it's not running would be the most ideal time to test the fuel pressure. OP, I would even suggest cleaning the MAF sensor since it's free and easy.

I'd hazard a guess and say it's the crank sensor.

Thank you all for the responses. It has happened in cold and hot temperatures. I think I have it narrowed down to the crankshaft sensor or maybe vvt sensor? I've thought it was fuel related all along so I guess I'll chase it a bit! Don't want to trade it in quite yet, had a frame put in last year and a bunch of other stuff while it was apart so it's basically a new truck. 11 years old though so I'm kind of on the fence

I had the exact same problem for months, it was so random I couldn't properly diagnose it. If you look back at my posts you'll see nobody could help. What finally stopped it for me was pulling the mass air flow sensor and cleaning it with some brake cleaner, also I stopped applying the oil to my engine air filter. I believe this problem started around the time I upgraded to a K&N air filter. I hope this cures your problem.
