I went to start my truck up two days ago and when I turned it on, it said the truck was in 4 Lo. The knob was still on 2 wheel drive, so I started to mess around with it trying get it thrown back in gear. Nothing was working. I tried all methods possible, including disconnecting negative battery and manual reset. I know for a fact that it was not left in 4 wheel drive prior to me parking. I checked it for codes, but it wasn't throwing any, so I had to get it towed to dealership.

They told me I need an entire new transfer case ($7,000) and though it is still under warranty the will not honor it. Anyone else experience anything like this??

What is their reasoning for not honouring the warranty? I get a lot of bs answers from toyota dealers, they are not out to help ya, in fact I think their job is to infuriate the customer and turn them away from Toyota.

Guessing it is because you lifted the truck.

This is standard Toyota first line of defense for the dealer. Throw out giant price and deny warranty.
    Sorry for your troubles.:fingerscrossed:

Go back to that dealer, look into his eyes and say:
    $7000? I got a better deal for $8000.

They said "due to use" and looks. Because I have a rooftop tent, roof rack and suspension, they are just insinuating I broke something. When I haven't been wheeling in a couple months. Bummed

That's illogical. You bought it to use, right?

So ask them to give you the warranty denial statement and reason in writing. So your lawyer will be able to use the correct terminology.

Huh? Only a moron would say "Due to use." Most will say "evidence of off road abuse," which gives them an argument to fight with. They have nothing if they just say "use."

    I have two questions.

When was the last time 4L was engaged, was it the previous drive or before that?

Do you have kids, by chance?

Oh i’d Fight them on that. Call Toyota directly and lodge a complaint.

Are you sure the truck wasn’t used while you were gone? By someone not knowing how to use the truck?

Is it actually in 4lo? I mean if you haven't been wheeling in months...

I'd research 4wd actuator threads if it were me. No way they actually looked at it with the attitude they gave you. They're trying to blow you off, or rip you off.

Unfortunately, car dealerships use the arbitration clause. You agree that any disputes will be settled through arbitration court, where everything is in the dealers favor. I would like to think that in an obvious case like this the arbitration judge would make the dealer honor the warranty (I mean its a fucking off road vehicle, using it off road shouldn't void the warranty), but then again they've been know to be highly in favor of dealerships.

"due to use" is laughable. You paid extra for 4WD so that you can, you know...use 4WD. How dealers can get away with this is beyond me.

File a claim with Toyota corp... they should definitely be replacing the transfer case. Corp will bark up their ass and itll get handled. (Unless there are details we are not aware of pertaining to your situation)
