I think that's a wise rule for any organized/membership group to have, it ensures that less accidents are going to happen that might be associated with the group. But in general I think it's okay as long as you're prepared, and being prepared involves more or less depending on your level of experience, the trail you're doing, the rig you drive, etc.

I do think that anyone new to the game should never go alone but once you have a certain level of confidence and experience down, it's actually a really rewarding experience to wheel by yourself. I usually prefer to be with at least one other person because I enjoy the company on the trail most times, but I've gone alone before or just with my wife riding passenger countless times.

Knock on wood I haven't had to hike out and leave a broken down rig behind yet, but if it were to happen I'm always prepared for a long hike out or an overnight stay if need be.

Yeah, I understand the thinking. Most inexperienced drivers should not go out alone. Not saying I'm "Joe 4x4", but I understand and accept the risks.

Ha ha! I do love both of my tacos though. They both have their pros and their cons. No hate for either generation though. I never knew there was any hate until I joined this forum! lol

At the time he (The OP) went in ... It must have seemed like a good idea. Only hindsight is 20/20.

I took my T100 up above the cabin one day in the snow. (I live in the WNC mountains). The tires were too slippery. I parked it.
I walked out, bought new rims, tires, and chains and the next day had a friend drop me off up there. I replaced all wheels and drove out. Accepting the risk is not always an option. You get what you get.

Good on @jberry813 to come to the rescue. "Jim Dandy to the rescue!"

I do agree, it’s not the best idea to go alone but I didn’t wake up yesterday morning thinking that I was going to hit a trail. My main goal yesterday was to get a bluebird day in at squaw right after the last storm and right before this current storm Tahoe is getting. It was a beautiful day on the slopes. After lunch I decided to commute back home and on the way out of squaw I found a trail.

If I left the house with intent of going off road and pushing the limits of my truck I would’ve came more prepared. I recently had 5.29 and front locker installed and wanted to put that equipment to use. Unfortunately a winch is what I really needed and I’m waiting until my bumper arrives before I order one.

It does blow. I’ve been stuck before, just not on a solo trip. So for me it wasn’t a matter of if I get out, it was more of a when I’ll get out. Still better than sitting on the couch.
Besides not making it back home in time for a dinner date, I had a great time with the recovery process. I definitely learned a lot. Even before yesterday, I knew the main thing holding me back from venturing everywhere is a winch. I could’ve got a mount while I’m waiting for c4 to finish my bumper but thought I’d save money if I just waited til the bumper arrives.

And last note to all of y’all, if you were commuting with no intentions of going off road, you have 5-6 hours to kill and you come across a trail off the road, what would you do?

I’d do it all over again but Probably avoid the snow patches.

Yep. I've gotten stuck by myself twice but luckily both times I was outta there within the hour.

Consider yourself lucky that you don’t live in Alabama, a State that seems to permanently have a wheel in the ditch.
