I have been having this annoying issue with my truck's brakes.

The truck has about 1200 miles on it, it is a 2013 DBL cab 4.0 auto TRD OR.

The issue is that, when I am at a complete stop with the truck in Drive and with the A/C on, the truck seems to surge forward a little bit from time to time. I cannot tell if it is when the A/C compressor engages/disengages but I am assuming it is when the compressor disengages and stops robbing power from the engine. I have never owned an automatic before as a daily driver so this may be normal.

The first time this happened I freaked out because I thought the car behind me hit me. I has only happened about 3 or 4 times, but I still do not like it.

Does anyone else notice this happening with their trucks?

It's the compressor belt engaging and disengaging. Everyone's does it.

Is it normal for the truck to actually creep forward a little bit? Sometimes I feel like i'm going to hit the car in front of me.

    Not just Toyota.

Every vehicle I've had with AC since '88 has done it.

Just learn to put a little more pressure on the brakes when stopped.

comen from a 5 speed to an auto again it surprised me, but a secend later i was like oh yea, A/C on or off ur change engine load, changing the needed braking pressure, surpising if u dnt know what to expect, nuttin once u learn the trucks personality traits :D

Our tacoma has done this since day 1, but the fj has never done it. (It has the newer 4.0l dual vvt engine in it)

Yep totally normal, when ever the switch is turned turned to the defrost position / or ac button pushed the surging will happen.
You can search around here a bit and find some good info.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the recent letter I got regarding the class action law suit against Toyota.

We got three letters, one for the truck, and one for each Corrolla.

Wow, really? I can hear it turn on, feel the slight movement, as the engine speeds up a little to take the extra load, then let off as the ac cycles. ALL vehicals with ac do this, some hide it better.

Nahh... the letters I got were related to the floor mat recall issue that was resolved 2 years ago.
There were no incidents confirmed by the black boxes to be the fault of the vehicle's electronics, yet people are still trying to cash in on it.

    Normal. Apply brakes harder.

FWIW, I've never noticed this on any other car I've hard. Perhaps just different brake pedal feel and I may have been pushing the brakes in harder subconsciously and never noticing it.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

This makes me feel a bit better.

I just drove my wife's 2011 Honda Civic and it does not have the same issue (smaller less torque engine I assume)

I will just have to apply more pressure to the brake pedal

    :D

It still get's me every now and then when I am not leaning on the brake pedal all that hard but as soon as it revs, something clicks in my brain to press a little harder.

The ECU has idle compensation software that is supposed to maintain engine idle at normal when the compressor engages, ie automatically adjusts the idle to compensate for the load of the compressor. But like anything else, it is not perfect. If you feel a significant surge, you might want to get your idle speed checked, it may be too low. Just a thought.

Nope, these are different. These are not TSB or recall letters. We got three, specifically about a class action lawsuit against Toyota.

That's what I got. A class action lawsuit letter apparently regarding Toyota's handling of the floor mat recall situation.
    My letter wasn't from Toyota.

Like I usually do with class action lawsuit letters, I pitched it.
