I'm thinking about trading in my 2012 tacoma V6 DCLB 4X4 with 54,000 mile. And buying a 2011 tacoma Access Cab I4 4X4 with 94. I really like my 2012 but recent job changes have made it to where I can't afford my payment anymore. My question what kind of MPG differences will I see? I'm getting around 15mpg in my 2012. What kind of things do I need to look out for when looking at the truck at the dealership?

How long have you owned the truck? Have you considered refinancing your truck? If you have owned it since new you should be able to cut your payment in half with a refi rather than taking the hit on the trade. I would recommend a credit union for a better interest rate and more favorable terms as well.

I've only had it a year I bought it used. Unfortunately when I bought my 2012 my credit score took a hit. and when I changed jobs I racked up my credit cards so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. By trading in my truck I think I can reduce my payment by $100 and keep about the same term length.

You should see high teens with the AC 2.7.

Depends on how you drive though.

As mentioned above, talk to your local credit union. As a member you are a part owner so they work for you instead of trying to turn a profit for shareholders and it is amazing how that can change the possibilities. I'll never do business with a bank again.

That said, if it doesn't work out I have been there. If your financial situation necessitates this change you need to do what you need to do.

I wouldn't look at such a hit to save $100/mo. I would suggest selling the truck privately and picking up an early 90s Toyota pickup ex cab. Drastically cheaper, better mpgs with the 22re, easy and fun to work on and inexpensive. Great trucks and should save you a significant amount more money.
