Hey I was wondering if yall had any answers on why this could be happening, i just got this tacoma, and i installed a sony xav-1000 radio aswell as my kicker L7T sub, I had the sub in for about a month now but paired with a jvc kd530 radio. I just today installed the sony radio and I drove it like 20 miles no problem, but on my way home just now while listening to music, the engine turned off then on real quick, so i turned off the music and then it kept doing it, and on the exit to my house, the truck fully turned off, the check engine light was on and wouldnt turn back on for about 30 seconds, then i made it home, could it be a faulty alternator or battery?

Until you do some testing it could be anything.Sounds like a loose connection causing a open circuit.

Pull any codes . Check battery voltage . Check battery terminals for corrosion and being tight .

Check grounds on the vehicle side. That should be a start.

i havent pulled any codes, i drove without the radio installed, and the truck would still turn off, i went to autozone and they said it was an alternator, i just installed a brand new alternator and it still dies, aswell as a new battery and new terminals for my battery. the grounds are okay and still nothing! I think it could be the alternator cord because it was pretty corroded. any other ideas? the radio isnt that powerful I think, its a sony xav ax1000 and it pulls 220watts max

You did not check for any codes ?

At any time was the charge light on or the Check engine light on with the engine running?

In these days quite easy to get a bad alternator or battery out of the box

Just what type battery terminals to you use to replace ?

Real world voltage numbers will give a better picture of what is going on.

If the wire from the B terminal of the alternator is corroded that might be a start.

Even the plug attaching to The alternator can be corroded .

Even battery cables if they have not been replaced can be corroded under the insulation.

You did remove and clean the ground connections not just give a glance and call it good.

The system voltage is dropping out and the engine shuts off. Very well might be an ignition problem .

    Automatic or manual

    Best of luck.

P1300 came up after it would die, the charging light never came on only check engine, i replaced alternator, and battery, I replaced the positive terminal with a duralast one from autozone, the b terminal was not corroded but the plug in was, I soldered a new connection and new plug in, the alternator is reading that its charging my battery with 14.3 volts according to o reilys. What in the ignition could be going out? and no i dont know where to look for a ground. my clutch saftey sensor plug is broken so I will be replacing that.

    Appears unrelated to radio/alt/battery installations

    I’m pretty sure a 96 3rz has distributor
    2.7L correct?

if so, your looking at/for issues with the the cylinder closest to the radiator
    Plug/plug wire/distributor cap/D rotor

I beleive the radio shorted something but i dont know where to look for the short to fix it, i also have a sub and amp setup do you think that could be shorting it, i checked all the cables and it is fine, and unplugged the radio and the issue still occurs

    IMO
    Totally unrelated

unless you tapped into a power wire for the amp/sub/radio(?) that affects ignition signal/timing

The radio has an ignition/acc wire that tells the radio when to turn on, aswell as the amp has a remote start wire which plugs into the remote start wire on the radio which tells the amp to turn on when the radio is on instead of always running. I believe I wired the constant 12v to the Ignition wire and vice versa and ran em backwards. then I switched them back to how there supposed to be, I just dont have a good wire guide for it, the site i searched for the radio diagram was wrong. so im not sure if theres a short there, none of the fuses are blown which makes no sense!
