The sensor is fine. It's the left rear corner just to the left of the hitch mount. He tried to swerve to avoid me but didn't quite make it.

It was on the I-805 N where the exit to the I-8 is. It always backs up there but it just so happened that another accident is what caused the backup. I don't know about the trail run. They've still got a couple of weeks to get the truck together so we'll see. I'm sure this week is probably a non-starter due to Christmas.

Ha! I would but the left leaf spring is damaged. There are two leaves that attach at the front mount point. One is completely broken (hangs down) and the other looks bent as it's trying to support the truck's weight by itself. I'm hoping they have it done before the meet. I have an appointment with the appraiser tomorrow morning. I know they have their own shop but I may just take it to the dealer to have the work done. Dealers don't bend parts back into shape, they just replace them.

The accident in front of me was a bad one. One car was upside down on the side of the freeway and it looked like they were taking someone away on a stretcher. People drive like it's dry and get in trouble when they can't stop. I've seen people drive through dense fog like it was a normal night (70+). There's no sense of danger with some drivers here.

Well, the truck's in the shop as of this morning. The insurance inspector estimated about $3K just in stuff he could see. I asked if I could take it to my Toyota dealer and he said no problem, since they're an approved shop. I wanted the dealer since I have the TSB suspension, I didn't want some shop that didn't know any better ordering a stock one. Plus, I think dealers are more likely to order a new part than try to bend one back into shape. The inspector was actually a pretty cool guy. I asked him about the black bumper and he said it wouldn't be a problem but that I should work it out with the repair shop (San Diego Toyota). He said Allstate will pay to replace what came on the truck (which, since it's chrome, is more expensive). If the repair bill comes under the check they cut, that's just mine. Normally they'll also put on used or take-off parts if they can find them, but he did about a 20 second look and said it wasn't worth it because he could get a new one for near what a used one would be. The guy has said he's been recognized as someone who comes the closest in his estimates to the actual cost. He also has a good relationship with the Toyota collision manager and that estimate updates wouldn't be a problem.

I talked to the Toyota rep and he said no problem on the bumper and noted the TSB suspension. He also said they'd probably put a new rear quarter panel on since it would be more expensive to bend it back into shape and paint it (Allstate estimated about 12 hours to do that).

Overall, it's been a positive experience so far. I had the inspection, had a check cut, dropped it off at the dealer and had a rental in about 1 1/2 hours. Allstate and Enterprise have deal together so they grant rentals pretty cheap even if you have to pay. Since they only had trucks (they've been slammed for rentals this week), I got a Dodge 1500 for $40/day. Once the claim info gets processed from the other guy, I shouldn't have any problems with that either.

Sorry it happened, but glad to see thing coming together.

I picked up this beefy skid plate that fit's in the trailer hitch. I would say the plate it 1/4" thick, and sticks out past the bumper. Not sure what kind of hit it would take, but would add some protection.

Everything looks good. They replaced the side panel instead of hammering it back into place. They also had to replace the rear axle.
