Ok so last night i drove my 2005 toyota tacoma v6 around my land and it ran fine the whole time. Woke up this morning and went to drive it and it will start but will barely idle and will not drive. I have checked fuses as well as intake hoses and connections. Does anyone have any idea on what could be the problem?

I'd go with fuel. Try changing your fuel filter. after that I'd look at your lift pump I'm not sure if it lives in the fuel tank or if it has a sock but that's where I'd be looking after the fuel filter. Then if you still have problems I'd look at your injectors

What happens if you step on the gas while it's idling?

Fuel filter is a sock on the pump which lives in the tank.

Most people won't have gauges and run Ts to plumb inline to check fuel pressure. Espically if he's just learning how to change plugs

Ok perfect now this leads me to the next thing. Could that sock be clogged up. How accessible is the sock to get at. Ive seen machinery come into the shop where the plastic rifle drillings in the tank weren't cleaned out properly and clogged up the filters.

Checking the fuel pressure is easier than dropping the tank to check/change the filter sock.

Going to clean MAF sensor when I get home and check the pressure from the pump. Also I was at about 1/8th of a tank when this issue started, so I'm thinking it is the pump or sock. Truck will idle if but when you try to give it gas it wants to die like its starved.

If your truck has no fuel in it now is the time to check and make sure it's not the sock or pump. It might be a bitch. But I promise you it will be a bigger bitch when the tank is full.

It's just silly to drop the tank to just check. Check fuel pressure and if that's the problem you drop the tank and replace the sock/pump (URD USA has a modified fit version). Troubleshoot and then repair

I agree. Check the pressure first. Wouldn't it be easier to lift the bed over dropping a tank with fuel in it?

    Too few to list.
I'd check for pressure first before checking the pump. I had a 2001 blazer that had this problem. No pressure to the fuel rails and no sound from the pump = dead pump. I had to drop the tank that was almost full of gas and that was a real pain. Now on a truck, it would be a question of what is easier, dropping the tank or removing the bed...

I'm not saying it's not possible, but this would be the first I've ever heard of a 2nd Gen having fuel problems related to a bad filter. OP, have you ever fueled up in Mexico or do you routinely fill your truck from rusty Jerry Cans?

Do you have mouse/rat problems? Check the wiring going to the throttle position motor.

A clogged filter might be unlikely, but a dead/ dying pump isn't unheard of. Still, I'd trouble shoot as suggested first. If you need to get to the pump/ filter, I'd strongly consider removing the bed. On an 05, the bed is probably loose and rattling anyway and now could be a good time to fix that too. If so, find the post by Milowilli for the fix.

Well guys something great happened. I went to work on the truck yesterday and decided to give it one more try and sure enough it started and ran fine. I did put fuel stabilizer as well as 5 gallons of gas in it. Drove it about 60 miles after that and had no issues. I am really thinking I got contaminated gas last week.

Hmmmm..... I'd still get the fuel pressure tested. You don't want to get stranded away from home.

Could still be clogged filter or marginal pump. Seen this with old Accords where the tank needs to be at least half full to keep running. We'll find out soon enough once you use up the 5 gallons. :)
