I always park on an incline with my e-brake engaged with the 6MT. I know that the hill start assist was not an option on my truck. It often feels as if there is an assist when I leave for work in the morning.

If I park my truck after work, then take it to go get dinner, I get significant rollback starting it up on the hill out of the driveway. In the morning, it seems to stay put and then goes when I hit the gas. It's convenient, but never really made any sense to me.

I wonder now if the truck is having this issue on a very minor level. it feels as if the support is coming from the rear, which would make sense given the fact that this is a drum brake issue.. Interesting.

This just happened to me. I’m so grateful for this thread. I solved the problem by putting it in four wheel, high, and then putting it in reverse and giving it some gas, then putting it into drive, and giving it some gas. I gave it some gas and some pulses, and I think that jerking movement unlocked the brake. wild. Hate those drums.

After moving to a colder climate few months ago, this issue finally happened to me.

It only happened a few times so far. I noticed the best way to “unstuck” rear brakes is to just go in R a few inches, then go forward and all good.

It just happened to me. I washed the truck yesterday evening and moved it from the driveway to the curb. I came out today to head to the gym and the truck was stuck it went into all the gears fine. I tried drive then reverse several times. Then I came here to see what could be the issue. So I grabbed 2 hammers. I used one hammer and put the handle on the back drums and used the other hammer to tap the other. I had my mom sit in the driver seat to run the truck through reverse, neutral and drive after hitting the drums. I didn’t hit too hard bc i don’t want to break anything. Then I pushed the truck to rock it and after a little while, I heard what I believe to be the drum brake shoes breaking free. I drove to the gym and it seems fine now.

Have them change the brake shoes (with new OEM shoes). 2005 and later like to stick when the shoes get worn...screwy parking brake actuator.
