That sounds like a cruise switch or clockspring issue then, the cruise light should always turn on and off with the on/off switch.
When it doesn't work try holding the on/off switch down while rotating the steering wheel, if the light comes on when you turn the wheel it's the clockspring.

If the question is still about the spiral cable causing the no start, I don’t see how.
I guess you could see if the spiral cable is the cause of the cruise.
Turn the cruise on, then turn the steering wheel all the way left and right and see if it comes on or goes off. Other than that, you need to test signal on the wires.

Oh, no. It never was. Just a side issues that I thought may be related since CC runs thru the NSS.

That I don’t know. But going off the diagram it does use the same D pins.

Further research turns up this bit of interesting information.
Now I’m curious if you can set cruise while in 4?
    Never tried it.

Auto and Manual cancel. (Not to be confused with manual Transmission)

    - The D position circuit in the neutral start switch is turned from ON to OFF. Models with the 1GR-FE engine (5AT): Shift the gear from the D or 4th position to any of the N, 3rd, 2nd and 1st positions.

I ended up getting a P0705 and replaced the park neutral switch. Code hasn’t come back, but the truck still won’t start in neutral. Any idea why?

Does the indicator light on the dash show you are in Neutral?

Sounds like it's not adjusted properly or the switch is defective, the same circuit in the switch is used in both park and neutral to start the truck.

It can’t be ANYTHING else? It happened before, and I replaced it with new OEM. Took great pains to adjust properly as well. And it does show “N” on the dash when the shifter is in the neutral detent

I'm not seeing how unless there's something not OEM wired in somewhere that is preventing it.
Check continuity between pins 4 and 5 of the switch in both park and neutral, that will tell you if it's the switch or not.

The “N” on the dash doesn’t directly correlate to the N for starting.
They don’t share the same path, I asked my question above because it would give us an “idea” if the switch was timed properly.

Here is what I’d do, put it in Neutral.
Hold the key in the crank position and rock the shifter slightly forward and backwards to see if you can get it to crank. Again, do this in Neutral.
If it wants to start, you can try retiming the switch.
If it never tries to start, you are going to need to get back under and do some testing,.

Only thing I can add is maybe check for a crappy pin at the PNP connector. Maybe bent or corroded? Maybe there's some resistance there, it can register N on the dash but it can't carry enough current to allow it to crank

Hot damn, TnShooter! That was a good idea. It did start halfway between N and R. So I’ll have to sort of clock the switch backwards and misalign the line and groove contrary to what the FSM says.

I’m the second owner. When I removed the old switch, I noticed that the shaft the switch rides on was gouged, so someone was there before… and didn’t do a very good job removing the switch…

I suppose misalignment of the switch could also be cause for the P0705 DTC. Probably wasted money on replacing the switch.
