My salesperson tells me that my truck will be here between Friday and Wednesday, but I got an email from the inventory manager telling me it's in I status. I'll see what happenes once Wednesday gets here.

Ugh. I'm getting nervous about mine. I ordered mine Aug. 27. I was told best case mid October delivery. Worst case beginning of November. The last I heard from my salesman there was no build date. That was two weeks ago. Reached out to him today and haven't heard back from him.

I just heard back from my salesman. This is his response: "Checking with my inventory manager, your Tacoma has not been processed for a build date/VIN yet. In fact, no ordered Tacomas for any Toyota dealership in this region have yet to be processed."

    What

No regrets. And there were many...many more over the past 40 years.

Actually, the Tacoma overall cost of ownership is small. Trade in value is strong.

Most people's "orders" are redirected allocations. If yours was truly a factory order yeah prob be a while. I am trying to figure out which mine is.

I'm thinking I am as well, as I have a VIN and build date from long ago, but still waiting for a real update

I just asked him. I need a direct line right to the inventory manager. Cut out the middle man.

well my dealer rep was keeping me up to date, and every time I called/texted/stopped by for a status update, he had no issue giving me an update from the system.

I ordered a MGM DCLB 4x4 off-road, tech/premium no jbl, tow, all weather mats. How would I know if it's an allocation or more of a "factory order". (I know there are no custom builds)

I put $500 down 4 weeks ago. You'd think that would lock in my spot in line so it can't be hijacked.

everything is allocation, no such thing as ordered in Toyota land period. they make the trucks and your dealer requests for that particular built truck.

    Well there it is.

I was told that the delays were affecting long beds, which I have on order as well. Can't think of any OR LB on here that I've seen either. Maybe that's what last in priority.

I understand that. However, once that particular truck gets built its already "reserved" for me. I don't see how it could be snagged by someone else unless they were "in line" before me. Correct?

    1. allocation is submitted by dealer
    2. regional port accepts the allocation request (or rejects it w/ explanation) based on that regional criteria for packages/options (caveat : options is what kills most allocation request since each regional port may/may not actually be able to install those particular PIO (port installed options)).
    3. Toyota will build your particular allocation request (including packages) and send it to the requested regional port.
    4. port will install PIO items (1-2 days to do this depending on the type of options required) (this is also when you will get a port date-this is not the date that it left the plant but when it arrives at that regional port)
    5. after PIO it will be loaded to either a truck carrier/transport (faster) OR rail car then to a truck carrier (slow boat to china method)
    6. truck carrier/transports will take between 1-3 days depending on how far away the dealer is from the port
    7. PDI by dealer
    8. Dealer installed options (DIO)
    9. sale to owner

now a dealer that has a fulfilled allocation has all the power here on your fulfilled allocation. they can either release that to a request made by another dealer, or mark it as sold to deny anyone from redirecting an already fulfilled allocation.

its a cat/mouse game with allocations between dealers. but usually if a dealer lets an allocation be redirected, they expect a replacement to fulfill that redirect.

same procedure for when dealers do a vehicle swap, I give you xxx car from my lot for xxx car on your lot.

If you work for toyota, you can order a truck (and wait a couple of months). Otherwise I think you are correct.

again there is no order system in Toyota. Toyota already knows what and how many of each model they will make and in what sequence of each they will make in the plant.

after they build them, Toyota will send xxx to each regional port to fulfill allocation requests.

This part baffles me a little bit. Small dealers are at the mercy of larger dealers it would seem as I've been told by a dealer that larger volume dealers have more control over allocation requests. I would think larger dealers are interested in getting as many trucks as they can so, what's to stop them from trying to redirect every truck they can to their dealership? I was told that putting my deposit down on the truck I wanted taken from allocation allowed them to make requests to change the options on the truck. So, it that what it takes to allow the dealer to redirect a truck, getting a deposit from the buyer?

Myself and others working with the same dealer gave our CC numbers to the dealer but the charges were never processed and it seemed like this was up to Toyota and not the dealer. FWIW "my" truck was supposed to be built next tuesday which was pushed back to next friday.

Great information. So I'm pretty much just stuck. I hope they get to my build soon.
