now that winter is returning I finally got around to putting on some shorter husky front mudflaps cause im tired of cleaning the mud off the side of my truck. barely clears at full lock, but its been working ok thus far for daily driving so im happy. def wouldn't work off road but its ok for mall crawling. :D

also going to install some new bosch icon windshield wipers tomorrow. those seemed to be the forum favorite from my research. should have replaced the stock ones a long time ago but somehow I just never got around to it.

still need to find some time to start the roof rack mod project as well.

I started reading your build because you have the OME Dakar rear leaf packs, and I'm looking at replacing my stock 2+1 leaf packs (still haven't made up my mind which one to go with yet). The more I read about your truck, the more I was addicted to seeing what you were going to do next! This is an awesome build page, and that is one of the best looking trucks I've ever seen! To say great work would be an understatement!

I was wondering if you were ever able to get the squeaking to quit on those leaf springs? I've seen the thread Oz started, and there are quite a few solutions being suggested, just wondering if you had any luck with yours? I like those leaf packs, and especially for the price, but really don't want to hear squeaking from the rear end everywhere I drive. Thanks!

    hi there! and thanks! :D

the sqeaking drove me up a wall too. even before I installed them I took them apart and painted them with special farm grade lubricant, but that did no good. but when I went with the epdm pond liner suggestion that oz said, and wrapped it around the problem area, that knocked it on the head and has kept them quiet ever since, barring when they get dusty from gravel roads, then I just squirt them with the high pressure garden hose to clean. otherwise, they are squeak free.

That's good to know. I should probably take the pack apart and wrap them before I install on the truck and hopefully prevent it from ever becoming an issue.

Maybe your next project should be putting a diesel engine in that rig? Or go a different route and do a small block V-8? Haha keep it up! :)

yeah id def wrap it before the install, and slobber some E6000 glue around it to help keep it in place.

I have no plans to modify the engine. im more about visual mods than power ones. currently im working on the access cab roof rack mod, then trying to convert my window and lock switches. also about to have the cluster led mod done, going all blue led's on it.

spotted a 3rd gen today, first one ive seen in person. looks pretty good! (from every angle except the front :D)

also aired up tires a bit, tpms light came on, front right was a little low. colder weather dropped the pressure I guess.

managed to snap a quick pic too.

    (mini update)

so one of the few things I didn't know about the front end swap beforehand and found out later is that the foglight plugs changed from 05-11/12-15, from an H10 to an H11, and I just left them unplugged until I found out people make handy dandy adapters for just such a need, so for an 8$ fix my foglights are now hooked up and working again! (yay) I didn't want to solider together a patch kit myself anyway. (pics later when its dark enough to take some)

    s-l1600_zpsyhcu1ouc_7f2cf01006918c20882848db1eeaba016e99ebbc.jpg

also ordered a new engine air filter, as it turns out something has been chewing on mine and damaged it somewhat. ordered a new cabin air filter too while I was at it. I haven't changed either one of those since I got it. the engine filter ive checked regularly and its held up well but I didn't even know the cabin had a filter.

I get super lazy about doing mods during the cold winter months, so when it warms back up ill finally get around to doing the access cab roof rack mod.

other than that, nothing much to report, just enjoying my truck and stuff. :D

I've sent a few folks over to your build thread since you've done a full swap out as opposed to my "poser" swap. :p

Question about your factory running boards....

I am looking for a reason to remove my mud flaps but want some kind of protection, I see you installed smaller front guards instead of factory.
    I have a 2015 Access Cab also.

Was it the tires kicking up the crud or just the way the factory running boards are shaped?

    Thanks

I initially removed mine because the 285 size tires would rub when turning near full lock. but I got tired of cleaning the almost daily mud splatter off the side of my truck, and some small rocks were making dings also. plus my tires stick out by an inch, so I just wanted to minimize the mud splatter, and its worked for the most part. the running boards didn't really stop much of the mud, they sit far enough back that they didn't keep much of that off the sides at all. so I put on some smaller husky flaps and am just dealing with the minor rubbing. if you offroad tho, youll have to take those off beforehand for sure. the running boards wont really replace your mudflaps if that's what you are wanting to know.

so what happens when you don't check your cabin air filter for like, um, 5 years? ... (oh lord)

yeah, that's what happens, something apparently tries to make a nest in it. I blame myself, ive been on tw since I got my truck and I had no idea there was even a cabin filter to keep an eye on until last monday. :smack:

also in totally unrelated news, my air conditioner blows really well now!
