I wasn't too fond of the bed cover early on but it's growing on me. The dealer explanation for cutting the side rail to add the locking bolts was to increase water tightness in crosswinds. Allegedly without the added lock points, if you're driving and it's raining and windy, it help keep the bed cover from lifting as much and letting water in from the sides.

I've been hemming and hawing about what to get for a month now. Just ordered today, Extang Solid Fold 2.0. I didn't want drain tubes, and it came down to the G4 vs the Solid Fold. I like the front access of the G4, but in the end the simplicity of removal of the 2.0, leaving nothing attached to the truck......that sold it for me. Also like only two folds. Fewer folds = less places to leak. Ordered from eTrailer.com, using their 5% coupon code (Rmn07a), no tax, free shipping. $778.05 total.

well. Here is my experience with that factory installed tonneau...During the first pretty hard rain I have discovered that it is leaking like a m.......r!!! I went to the dealer and at first he was trying to tell me that I didn't properly closed it... Really??!! Then I asked him to do it "the proper way", which he did (or so he thought he did). After that I asked him to go through the car wash (available at that dealer). He agreed. The result was not as he has expected (since he "properly closed tonneau") - the water was all over the bed. His argument after that was - "well, we, probably, have to order a replacement for you". My response to that was that there was another Tacoma just like mine on the lot with the same tonneau and with the same problem, which means that the replacement will have the same problem as well. There are some serious problems with the design of this tonneau - it is too short, it has holes in front and water can also penetrate the bed from the sides. If you haven't had any problems with yours, it means that you haven't hit a hard rain yet. Anyway, they have scheduled an appointment with a "master technician" who will assess the situation and make a proper decision - either to order a replacement, or provide me with an aftermarket alternative. We'll see...

it's definitely not meant to be waterproof. Manual says the deck area isn't waterproof and to take care with items that may be damaged by water.

I'm in the middle of the same ordeal. I emailed Toyota directly, and they called back actually interested in fixing the problem. They want me to take it to the dealer and let them look at it. It's been raining here the last couple of days, and the amount of water that gets in is totally unacceptable.

    Stay tuned...

It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, they do since they claim it's not supposed to be watertight. They're going to have a lot to fix if they change their minds.

No tonneau cover on the market is watertight or waterproof. The one piece tonneau would be your best bet on keeping water out of the bed along with a tailgate gasket.

I didn't want the damn thing at first place, dealer said it was a factory installed item (along with other stuff that I didn't want and made them remove) that couldn't be removed. I didn't know that it wasn't waterproof. And, apparently, the everybody else at the dealership doesn't read the manual either (which is good for me), otherwise they would have showed it to me and wouldn't spend any time trying to fix it/replace. I don't know, have nothing to loose. We'll see what they say in a week.

They aren't water proof but are designed to be water resistant. If water is pouring in to the back something is wrong.

Wow!I am amazed of the number of people advocating for Toyota's statement in the manual that "the tonneau is not water proof"! How would you find out before? Research the manual? Is that what a regular customer would do? NO! You assume that if my neighbor, who has a gen 2 Tacoma and a tonneau that DOESN'T leak water, you will be fine with Toyota brand stuff... I guess not... You have to READ the manual before you buy it. HAVE YOU READ IT BEFORE YOU BOUGHT IT???????????? If yes - YOU are a genius! And I am just going to get an aftermarket replacement, or a refund..... Since I am not as smart as you are...

I'm unaware of a Toyota brand tonneau prior to the one introduced with the '16. Care to enlighten me?

I am actually a genius! I downloaded and read the manual ahead of time. I am satisfied that the cover is working as described.

I have been reading this thread for a week now and I'm still undecided on which Tonneau cover to purchase. Those of you that just bought an Extang 2.0 sold fold cover: how is the build quality, does it fit on your bed properly, how well do the speed clamps work, any problems with dimples on your top after clamping everything down and how is the water resistance? Lot's of questions. Thanks,

    Bill

Are those snaps all around..? Do you have to "snap" each of them to close the cover..?? I'm not a fan of that...and those "humps" in the cover... sorry... but .. no thanx...!!

Can anyone confirm if the Access Limited cover is available yet for the 2016's? I can't seem to get an answer directly from them...
