Just trying to finish a rear bearing and axle seal replacement. Went to bleed brakes at rear passenger wheel and just getting a little bit of fluid out. Passenger side was fine but a lot of air. Any suggestion before I move to the front? It is a 2008 offroad with only 150k. Pedal still a bit soft.

I would put more brake fluid and keep pumping until it's better

Just gotta keep at it. Utmost important to not let the reservoir go empty. Is it possible you’re not tightening the bleeder enough when you get to that step? You could also try using some clear tubing attached tightly to the bleeder, the other end in a bottle with a little brake fluid in it. Then just pump the pedal up and down, you’ll see bubbles push out, slightly back in, the out.

Take the bleeder out completely and use a drill bit (by hand) to make sure the hole in it is open. They get filled with crap (dirt/rust).

Are you using a pressure bleeder?

    Try this^

When I did my axle seal, I let it gravity bleed for awhile. I then went to the old pump the pedal method. Hold it down and crack the bleeder. Obviously you need a buddy to help when doing it this way.

It took a long time. And naturally, I didn’t get the bleeder tight the first time. Under “hard” braking the stupid thing leaked. I cranked down on it good and it’s been fine since. I don’t know why, but the rear bleeder need to be TIGHT on my truck. If not, they want to leak.

I hope the OP knows to tighten the bleeder on any given wheel while the pedal is held down...

You can always start the engine and bleed with assist. Sometimes this will clear out air easier, then you can try again without the engine running. You should have good flow after that. I'd consider replacing your brake hoses soon as well (I know the rear is drum). They deteriorate from the inside, so the hose can look good, but actually be compromised. Good practice is flushing/bleeding the system every couple of years. Make a simple bleeder bottle from a clear plastic (water) bottle and tubing with a small vent hole in the cap to collect the fluid.

Are you sure you have a legitimate Off-Road then? The electric booster is what controls A-Trac which is half of what makes an off-road an off-road, the other half being the E-Locker.

I have the Locker, and Locker only.
    No Stability control.
    ABS is all I got.

Have you tried to let it gravity bleed? That consists of opening the bleeder and letting it sit for like 5 min. Make sure there is plenty of fluid in the master first though. After gravity bleed then do the regular bleeding

That is how I did mine. Except I went longer than 5 mins.
I just placed a drain pan under the drum and stood up at the MC and kept filling it up.
I went through about 3/4 quart of fluid before I got the air out. Lol

A-Trac should be under the AC controls in the center not to the left of the wheel.

Is your truck 2 or 4wd?

A-Trac and the electronic booster wasn't added to Offroads until 09 when stabilty/traction control became standard on all models, pre 09 Offroads only came with the locker.

That's bizarre, my 02 4Runner had the electric booster, I was under the impression all Off-road 2nd had it too.

    Aight then, carry on.
