Can the fiance haul a boat? Load of wood? Tools? Trailer? Take you down trails, and on long trips? Tacoma > Fiance.

That is the most absurd HOA rule I've ever heard.

One more take on Tacos vs T4Rs...

    Taco pros:

    • higher towing
    • has a bed (short or "long")
    • updated tech in 3rd Gens
    • 6th gear in new auto drivetrain helps with MPGs
    • manual trans option
    • if you need a truck, the Taco (an actual truck) wins

    4R pros:
    • higher payload (yes, you read that correctly)
    • better suited for offroading (shorter wheelbase, better departure angle, even base SR5 comes with ATRAC)
    • bulletproof drivetrain
    • more seating space (not much on paper, but it feels like a huge difference vs the Taco)
    • far more interior cargo room to haul stuff out of the elements
    • big disc brakes all the way around
    • built completely in Japan

I went with a 4R because of the extra interior room, the more solid feel, and because most of the stuff I haul is music gear which I'd rather have in the cab with me than in a bed. I could still really use a truck. In a perfect world, I'd have one of each.

If the neighborhood is stupid enough to make a rule that doesn't allow pick up trucks, I bet they'd be stupid enough to think a truck with a low rise cap is an SUV

I went from a 07 Tundra, to a 08 Sequoia, and now to a 18 Tacoma. Do you want your items in climate controlled storage? Having the 4Runner also allows the rear passengers to have easy access to your gear while driving. One downside to a SUV is it's not ideal for hauling dirty/smelly gear. Those are some of the things that affected my decisions. I'm back to a P/U now cause I'm constantly hauling dirty gear to and from. Good luck choosing. Can't go wrong with either.

If you are trying to decide go with the 4R. If I didn't need a truck I'd go with this...

Wish I could’ve done something to keep it, but there are 5 or 6 security guards in their 60’s and 70’s who drive around all day and night around the clock just waiting to catch someone for a violation. Here’s the kicker, The security guards drive base model 3rd gen SR model Tacomas!

They can fine you daily, and force you to sell out. Friend of mine is going through this now. He's ex-military, and they're fighting him to remove his USA Flag from the front of his house. They're fining him daily for it too.

Every owner fills out vehicle info about their cars/suvs with the HOA. You can’t take a piss without them asking questions. Plus, all of the people who live in here are rich old lady’s who basically have nothing better to do than to spy on their neighbors. We’re the youngest ones in here and had a target on our backs immediately.

I / we have a 16 TRD sport access cab (long bed) love all the Tech. But the wife hates the ride when mall crawling especially over those speed bumps, I refused to give it up, bought a 18 4runner SR5 a whole lot less tech
but the wife loves it. As they say, happy wife ,happy life. and yes I do have over $700.00 a month in car payments.
