Both of mine were nearly identical in price. 2016 4Runner Trail Premium with 5" nerfs, mats, and a few other accessories for $37,400.

2017 Tacoma Offroad 4x4 V6 with tow, premium and tech package, moonroof, Predator steps, tonneau, etc. for $37,200.

The price difference isnt really there. Sticker on my 17 OR and a 4r Trail was within 1k.

Hauling: 4 bikes, campaign gear. Never owned. A pickup before, but I thought that it'd be easier to put the bikes in the bed than on a bike carrier. On the other hand anything you carry in the bed can get stolen....

Dude, I drove the Tacoma I bought almost 70 miles over three separate test drives. I drive almost 30K/yr and the who, what, when, where and why matters to me. Dealers will let you do this. You just need to be a serious buyer. Or in my case this was the ninth vehicle I have bought from this dealer.

If salesman gets in with me (only happened once) I straight up tell them I'm not buying it from them. I like to keep a vehicle for a few hours to look it over and drive it in various situations. That and I know my local salespeople quite well. If I'm dropping 50k (Canadian) on anything you better be prepared to let me be alone with it!

You can lock everything down in the bed, too. You're only locking for casual theft.

I have 2 taco's and a Runner and at the end of the day I would pick a Taco over the Runner. I really love them both but the versatility of the Taco's is impossible to beat.

If you want problems buy a 3rd Gen Tacoma.

If you want a comfortable ride, fuel economy, comfy seats, and less recalls... buy a 4 Runner.

Huge difference in the amount of time and money Toyota invests into the two designs.

You can spend 75k on a lot of stuff these days. Sports cars, big ass Escalades, or a fancy wake boarding boat. Can't take it with you.

Because they sell more Prados globally than Tacomas.
As far as problems with the 3rd gen TACOMA? Vastly more people don't have any problems with them than have problems. If you only use this forum for information then you are not.getting the whole story.

I stand corrected. When I bought my Tacoma new in '15, the Tacoma's were going for around $33K (TRD Sport) and the 4runners were around $42K. I didn't really look at the 4runners though because I didn't want one and they were out of my price range.

The fact that there are no less than TWO "RECALLS" on a truck that's only 2 years into production... and both recalls are for serious mechanical issues that pose safety risks or could disable the vehicle while in motion...

Yeah I'd say there are problems.

Or you can get a canopy like I suggested...
With and without the canopy, I've never had anything stolen from the bed of my truck. Granted without the canopy I don't leave anything valuable in there, but with the canopy, I'll pack for camping the night before, park at work all day, and leave right after.

if you don't actually need the bed capabilities like for sheet goods, 4runner.
if you need the bed, taco.

I love the 4runner, and had I not needed a bed to move sheet goods and just the overall added cargo space etc, I'd be driving a 4runner.
Driving the taco as a daily isn't bad at all and the wheel base isn't really much.
I came from only owning cars as daily drivers and now driving the taco, no issues at all, other than at my girlfriends pulling into the back laneway.

I have a 14 Tacoma DCLB (obviously this is the 3rd gen forum) but the cabin is almost the same. I love being able to leave dirty stuff in the bed of the truck, but I do find myself aching for a 4Runner too. We frequently take long trips with the inlaws and there are rarely complaints about cabin room. I even stuffed 3 Marines in the backseat and drove 330 miles back home through the mountains once and they said it was fine.

which two recalls are you referring to on the tacos?
I know when they first came out for the first month or so there was a knee airbag recall.
But what other recall besides the rear diff was their? Was the faulty CPS ever issued as a recall or just a TSB, it was caught pretty early in production to be an issue.

The rear diff is really the only major recall that still isn't fully fixed.

I put a leer 100xq on my Tacoma and I really like it. It lock and will keep the same amount of people out as do the door locks on the cab.
