I got the WC6600NEX. Great headunit, main interface is a little slow at times, but I use AA most of the time.

With the idtatalink, I keep all or most of my OEM settings. Only thing I miss is the MPG history.

Dang, and here my wife just called me an old fart just yesterday. :D

The stock head unit is okay but lacking in a few areas. Loading an app on your phone to use for nav kinda stinks, and the map was slow and kinda glitchy for me. CarPlay just works, and you can use Waze, Google Maps, whatever you prefer.

The stock speakers, though, are crap, and I’m actually impressed they sounded okay as cheaply as they’re made.

As for the volume knob, yeah. Still kinda getting used to not having it. But I purposefully chose a unit without one as I wanted a cleaner look. And there IS a mute button, which is handy when you need to slow down to look for something. ;)

only for those that really don't care to begin with.

i'm personally only here because the tacoma is one of the last newer trucks that i can still change the head unit in without effecting all sorts of vehicle systems.

my very first rule with vehicles is that i must be able to drive the car without a head unit installed for a week and keep the rest of the vehicle functional. sounds simple, but all newer cars that route hvac controls into the stereo can't do it...
