I have had my trusty iphone 4 for 2.5 years now and I think its about time to get something newer. I have three options that are free, iphone 5, samsung galaxy 4s active and the LG G2. All of these phones are free at different places and I just cant decide. The G2 looks awesome and has 32gigs and a massive screen that is like the iphones. The Galaxy is a "tough" phone and with a kid it could be the smart play. I know the GS4 and Iphone are the popular kids on the block but the G2 looks super damn cool. Any input would be appreciated.

Don't know how many apps you have on your existing phone, but if you've purchased anythat you use, you'll need to purchase the Android equivalent if you buy anything other than the iPhonr. If you only have freebies, it's not a big deal.

    Look at build!
I switched from Iphone to Windows and wouldn't turn back! Got the 928 since Verizon wont carry the 1020 but its 32 gigs as well as a pretty badass camera

I went from Android to iOS. I enjoy the iPhone 5 better. I rooted my Droid Incredible and the realized it garnered me nothing useful but tinkering. I decided I just want something simplified so I went iPhone this round. I don't care about all the games and niche apps.

:) You may want to wait a little longer for the next generation of cell phones to come out. The I phone 6 is due out in summer or early fall. The new Galaxy 5 will be out in the spring and may be the best one yet. Other new phones may follow, but these two control the market. If you can wait a little longer, you will not be behind the technology curve. Check out CNET and see what the latest gossip is.

I'll vouch for the GS4 active.
Suited me well, and I came from the s1, s2. I am a android junky though.
I'm not a big fan of the LG line, but you should determine if you want the "easier" (iPhone) or "cooler" (android) interface.

IMO this is a constant with cell phones. There's always something newer and flashier coming in out in the next 6 months or a year.

My pick is the S4 Active. My kid can put it in his mouth and drop it and it's like nothing ever happened. I really like the customization on Android compared to iOS (had a 3G and 4) if you like simple and don't care to change much stay with iPhone. The galaxy can utilize up to a 64gig sd micro card I think (32gig in mine with tons of music and movies). The ability to change the battery is a huge plus as well over the iPhone. Get a torrent downloader from the play store and pretty much everything is free.

I have been really lucky with my iphone and an 18month old. I have had it in a cheap otter box knockoff since i got it and it still works great even with teething slobber all over it. I have seen how delicate my iphone is because my wife has had two. She broke the shit out of both within 3 months of getting them. I am convinced that as long as you keep your phone dry and in a full case it will last as long as you want it to. I like the simplicity of my iphone but i HATE the new iOS. Everything looks like a 16 year old hipster girl designed it.

    Info for the OP:

I previously had an HTC Thunderbolt with an extra large battery, looking back, it was a little laggy at times (what phone doesnt slow with age?), but it was pretty reliable and more intuitive like a PC.

I now have an Iphone 5, and it was great for some time... very fast, nice to look at, easy to use, but lacked the customization and intuitive capabilities of the Android, also smaller in the hand. I have it in a lifeproof case atm so it is protected but it has gotten kind of unresponsive, glitchy/laggy and I've tried factory resets. Also, the battery life just sitting in my pocket with all apps "killed" is like 2-3 hours tops? super shitty and inconvenient battery life. It also does not like to sync with Itunes on my PC cause i'm not a mac user.

Prior to all this I had an LG ENVTouch or something flip phone, so games and "apps" werent an issue. I just needed a phone, and now the apps are just an extra perk. I think if you go with an Iphone you will be happy like before, but if the Samsung interests you, go for it! That is a nice machine from what little i've seen

I love my rooted Incredible. But I also did quite a bit more than just tinker with it.

    x2

I've heard the LG G2 is a great phone, but I have no first hand experience with it. There are plenty of reviews on Youtube for it, along with any of the phones mentioned above.

I'm a HTC fan. I have the Incredible, upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus and quickly traded for the Rezound, and now I'm on the One.

I currently have the htc one and LOVE it! Great phone, speakers, speed, storage, and interface. The G2 is one of the best phones out there and so is the S4. The iphone 5 made great strides compared to the 4 but I felt the same way about the updates, more annoying than anything.

Some people love apple and some love android, personally I feel Android phones are better now than ever. Apple used to be the best phones on the market but not anymore.

    just my .02
