trying to determine if going from a 2010 with low miles to a 2016 or newer is really worth it?

The newer truck is nicer in a lot of ways. That being said, if I had your truck, I wouldn't upgrade till it was wore out. If I could get stupid money for the 2010, I might sell it.

Tacomas have stupid resale value. I imagine people want more truck than they can finance new and are willing to finance used.

If I was shopping, there's no way I'd pay 30K for a used 2015 TRD Offroad 4X4 with 60,000 miles when I can get a new SR 4X4 with similar mechanical configuration for $27K.

That's easy. You probably bought the 2010 mainly because of its dependability. You answered today's question when you bought it. You have a great, dependable truck. Keep It!!! Don't waste your money. Spend it on hookers, beer and Necco Wafers. Life is too short.:drunk:

I would say no....especially if your low mileage has no problems.
Originally I wanted a 12-15 but the used ones cost close to new.

Tacomaworld came alive because of the 2nd gen guys, because of the unrelenting hate from the 1st gen guys on customtacos.com. Customtacos is now dead. There was the same hate between 1st-3rd gen pickups and the 1st gen tacoma's back in the day. it's comical really.

wow! great advise for and against going from 2nd gen to 3rd. My 2010 TRD Sport doesn't have a speck of rust. i live in the desert.. never had ONE issue not ONE.. it's beautiful blue and I get compliments on it all the time.... and it's paid off... so maybe i will take some of your advise and drive a 3rd gen and go from there... many people who compliment my truck think it's new..... so.......... thanks guys!!!

I am betting your 2010 is paid for. You state it is in excellent condition. If you got a 2016+, are you going to pay cash or finance? If you are going to finance why go in debt. In the end only you can decide if the 3gen is worth it.

I had a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 sport. Really liked the truck. In 2016 I went looking for a new midsize truck. I really didn't like the powertrain on the Tacoma's I test drove. I also am not that fond of all the newer electronics the 3gen can come with. I ended up with a Frontier. It reminded me of my 06 Tacoma.

Good luck in making your decision.
