    Hey guys,

so i'm currently trying to decide which suspension i'm trying to find, but the reason why i'm on the nor cal thread is because I want to find a shop locally that does well with bilstein installations. any recommendations?? Oh, I live in the east bay also, (vallejo, benicia, fairfield area)

I used SWAT offroad. I have a Baja and I added new UCA and put a 1" spacer in front and a 1.5" (?) AAL from Icon in rear. I got sliders added.

I was pretty happy with two caveats.

    1. When they installed my bolt-on sliders from SoS offroad, they pulled the metal brake line off of the frame along the length of the frame. People on tacomaworld who have installed the same sliders just made very minor adjustments. This is going to eventually cost me 800-1000 bucks to get replaced, so I don't have a shitty bent up brake line.

    2. I originally asked for an estimate and they said 1000 as I recall, including alignments and everything. A week or two later I called back and said can you do the install for 600, without referencing the prior quote - I doubt they knew I was the same person. They said sure, but then added on the alignments and everything to the price later, so it ended up coming to 800-1000. I don't remember the exact dollar figures but you get the idea.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll definitely look em up and try to get some estimates. As for the sliders. I’m planning on getting some demello offroads. And installation looks simple enough. Hopefully I don’t make any mistakes though.

I would like to. Problem is I’m a total newb to an install this tricky and I don’t want to mess up anything. I am probably gonna tackle the bhlm soon as I get all my lights ordered.

Holy cow... I would never, in a million years, pay a shop to do a lift.

Are you just planning on doing a basic Bilstein lift? I've never done a turd gen lift but it can't be that different than a 1st gen. I've got the tools and a garage, if you can drive to the Central Valley with the parts.

Dont go to 4x4 Shop in Livermore.
Those guys left my panhard loose, the top bolt of my shock loose, and was too lazy to remove the barcode off my BFG tires. Now you can see the whites sticking out the bead.

A lot of crap and too much money spent
I would agree with the others mentioning to do it yourself and now you have someone offering to help with the install. Good opportunity to save some money and learn a how to do it. I would advise bringing beer and food. depending on when and if this happens I could possibly help out as well.

Just to re-interate. My offer was serious.

Paying a shop to do a basic lift is not only a waste of money... it seems like more often than not, I hear about shops doing a piss poor job leaving crap loose etc. No way in hell I'd pay $500-600 (or more) for a shop to do a basic lift.

Again, I have not specifically done a turd gen... but It's pretty much the same as doing a First gen. I've done quite a few lifts and lowers, I'm sure we can get er done... plus I'll bet we can get some others to pitch in if we plan it right.

Shit ..... that’s a deal right there! The best installs usually come from people who master the craft from several previous projects on the same car. I would go for it, I’m sure you guys can work out a good deal.... if you guys say “it can also be a beerfest” I’m in to help lol

    Beer is always good!

Hell, if we get 2 or 3 people to help, we could have the lift done in a couple hours and spend the rest of the day drinkin beers.

Just do it yourself! look up videos on youtube, read the instructions and do your research. It's not very hard at all.

I would take advantage of the members here offering to help/do it for you for the cost of some beer. I've done mod days before with other cars and other forums and they're always fun.
