well I jacked up rear wheels and put it in drive since the noise occurs mostly as I'm in gear and driving. Of course I couldn't get the noise to occur. I know jacking locations have been discussed many times before. I used rear pumpkin which is what the manual shows. The front I tend to use frame as close to wheels as I can get. The manual shows a midpoint in the front which I believe is along a crossmember where a round oblong piece with a hole on the bottom of it is. I've always been afraid to use that area because I think one member said that crossmember bent. What's the boards opinion on that spot. Any ideas how to locate this noise I'll take any suggestions. Tia

Vibration sounding but no feeling in pedal seat or steering wheel. Checked almost everything but nothing is loose and vibrating that I can see. Truck drives great shifts great. Noise will stop when I take foot off accelerator. Tends to occur at lower Rpms

Thanks wilcam I've checked all those things. It's most likely going to my mechanic. I had thought about investing in those steelman chassis ear device. I'm just not sure if I have enough knowledge to know what to listen for or identify what I'm hearing.

Good luck OP, our trucks have all kinds of noises so it’d be very hard to pinpoint. I’ve had certain noises since I bought my truck 8 years ago and still can’t figure out where they’re coming from.

That center jacking point is fine and designed just for that purpose. It will not bend.

No luck. Funny thing is I had to drive into town for a service call and as I leave my house it's making the noise again. When I increase speed noise goes away, so I'm driving down I 95 doing 60 mph truck sounds great it's about 10 miles to city exit and as soon has I start going into slower traffic I'm expecting to hear the noise. Truck sounded great it appears that being driven at higher speed for a few miles seems to change something because I had noticed this happening before ran great when got back to my neighborhood where I drive slower. But tomorrow when I'm doing local travel it will be back. Very frustrating . Thanks guys for the help

When you say you checked the universal joints etc... did you remove the drive shaft from the truck. You know you can't check them without pulling the shaft and manipulating each joint to inspect for binding and excessive looseness.

This is the key normally to u-joints starting to fail:

No I didn't take driveshaft off. Noise stops when foot off gas. Driveshaft still turns so doesn't make sense. Noise goes away at higher speed or quicker acceleration. There is no vibrations felt in truck it's a vibratory sound. It will do it occasionally while standing still in drive or reverse but tends to be worse at low Rpms . Had found a hole in muffler and Han it replaced when I first started the truck and drove it sounded great and no noise. Drove it home and no noise. The next morning back again.

I'm gonna try to record the noise this weekend. Maybe it will help members by hearing it. If not it goes to my mechanic next week

Well if it does it standing still it isn't the drive line.

I have no idea what a vibratory sound means...
