Could you build a platform that elevates the crates higher up above the arm rest section of the door? Might be kind of tight, not sure how much space you have to build up.

It's a good idea. We were looking into that. I think it would work but you'd need to build some kind of serious platform to be able to properly secure the crates and you'd lose your visibility almost completely. It would make the crates almost touch the ceiling.

Whats wrong with a rear seat delete? Then you can permanently mount the crates to that.

I actually took measurements of the back before buying, to make sure what i had in mind would work.
If the rear seat delete isn't an option for you, sounds like the Sienna is a better fit.

But, with crates just sitting back there, if you roll the truck, wont crates just bounce around? Id want them bolted down. Otherwise your argument seems sort of pointless. Crash tested crates are great, but any dog shook enough inside during a wreck, it wont matter. Scrambled dog.

2 inches short you say? Story of my life. Trust me the extra 2 inches won’t magically appear. If you won’t use a different crate sounds like you’re SOL sorry man. Still think the best idea would be to try to find a crate 2-3 inches shorter. Good luck.

    Tie them to the bumper.

    The dogs not the crates.

I think I had the same misunderstanding as well. The space from front to back of the car is sufficient, while distance left to right (door to door) is not enough.

They are RuffLand "backseat" crates. They are one piece, nothing to take apart. Very safe and sturdy but you can't do much to them. Might need to touch up on my plastic welding skills...

Thank you for trying to help. This is my first post on this forum and I'm a bit surprised at the BS allowed. I presume this forum isn't very tightly moderated.

We have one of those dog hammock things in our 2022 4Runner.

We didn't use it yet, but we bought it.

Guess op is out of luck then. If i had these expensive dogs and magic crates, id have done my research to make sure how i planned on using the truck in the first place, would work for me.

Yes, sorry, I should have been more clear. The space from door to door is what is too short. This is why I was asking about getting different door panels. Seems like that's not an option.
