I have a 2003 Tacoma. It had a evap code error so the garage did a smoke test and couldn't find anything wrong, they changed a senor and gas cap, same error came back. next I had them install a new charcoal canister. now I get a strange smell and I noticed more pressure releases from the gas cap after I open it, also there is now a cat bank 1 error. i had the error reset but it came back. do you suggest get a new cat or do you think there is another problem?

    None....she's stock :)
I wouldn't replace any parts without isolating the issue. Cats can be tested with either a back flow meter (best option) or with a vacuum gauge if you think there is something wrong there. The cat if bought from the dealer is $1000! Usually cats don't just go bad on their own, there is an under lying issue to be found first. What was the code?

There are a lot of different Evap codes... Which one did you get? Also, replacing the cat wont fix an evap problem. and like @cooperman1516 said, cats don't just go bad. Something going wrong in the engine causes them to crap out. If they can't find an external leak with the smoke machine, you could have a problem with the purge or vent valves.
