I'm new here and I believe this forum is the answer to my problem. I want to get 2 or 3 spare key fob's made and I don't want to go to the dealer as they are 115 miles away and too expensive. The vehicle is a 2024 Tacoma TRD with a 4 button fob. What is the easiest way (and cheapest) way to accomplish this. I bought an Xhorse KEY TOOL MAX PRO but can't seem to get it registered, so it's getting returned. All help is appreciated.

I'm a Vietnam veteran and retired Tool & Die maker and reside with my wife in North central Pennsylvania. So howdy folks. My wife says to say I'm a voice crying out from the wilderness.

OEM fobs are $150ish each. You just need a scan tool that'll register new fobs. See THIS THREAD for a starting point.

You'll still need a locksmith to cut the blanks of the emergency keys inside.

I'd call a locksmith and see what they would charge.

Purchase replacement fobs off internet and find a local mobile locksmith to program them. Last time I did that it was still $80 for a program and key cut.

    Yeah.
Yeah, I'd say contact a local locksmith. They have the tools needed and can do anything the dealer can. I tried Tom's Keys for our Corolla but nobody would cut a key that they didn't sell - Lowe's, Ace, some locksmiths. I found one that would, but he would have sold me the fob/key, done the programming and cut the key for one price. I would have spent a bit less.

Gen 3 here but I paid $250 for everything from the Locksmith. Fob, key cut & program. Cheaper than the dealer & I don't mind spending some money with a local business

    Yeah.
Oh, and welcome to TW. Based on your user name, you should fit in just fine here.

I spent some time as a kid living in Port Allegany. And I used to mountain bike with a Vietnam vet in the St Louis area, he's now a retired tool and die maker.

Do you live near a Costco? The Costco warehouses I visited from central to western states have had key fob vendors standing reps.

The closest "city" to me is Olean, NY. There is a Home Depot and BJ's.
