Getting closer. I've set my sights on the Speedway Blue, just love that color and I've had enough of a black vehicle trying to keep it clean. Black is awesome when clean though.

So I located a Blue TRD in Tx and now a blue SR5 here locally. Both r shortbeds. The one in TX will be more costly and require a flight. So, I'm probably going with the one locally but damn, that TRD is sweet.

Trick or treat coming soon I'm hoping...

I'm at 27k right now for the Blue SR5, the TRD I could have for $30,595 out the door but, I don't want black...

    :eek::eek::eek:
For my 2010 4x4 these are the best prices I found by contacting often referred-to Toyota dealers online.

    7 YEAR/125K PLATINUM = $1195
    6 YEAR/100K PLATINUM = $800
    5 YEAR/100K PLATINUM = $680
    5 YEAR/ 80K PLATINUM = $525

Holey crap, if they can do 7yrs for $300, sold! It's a dealer trade so I'm waiting to hear back if I get her tonight. Man, I hope so...

Not using their financing though unless they come down another $1k, I like my USAA credit union too much.

I would stick my neck out and say they make equal money, if not more, from financial commissions (sales kickbacks and origination fees), accessories and extended warranty sales.
Invoice sales happen a lot. So often in fact (on our local radios) that I have started to think that "Invoice" isn't "Invoice" ..

Well, right now my price is $1k below invoice, based on TrueCar Price Protection Certificate. We'll see what happens when I get there.

I would agree with FireFighter, they make their money in other ways. Plus, there's a "throw back" of about $500 paid to the dealer from Toyota on this vehicle. Being the last day of the month, they also want to make their numbers to maintain certain dealer status, goals etc...

I don't care, long as I get a fair price this time, I'll be happy. Will report back in a few hours....

Invoice price isn't the price they paid. It's the price they paid + Dealer holdback. Trust me, they still make money at invoice price and plenty sell at invoice.

mine was listed for 33,000. (blah, blah... you get it. being close to you, i personally think they were doing some funny stuff with ya. i think the sport i looked at was 27 and the TRD was 25. maybe it was the other way around.

any who, i think that 33 was too much!

They did the right thing this time and I'm now the proud owner of a beautiful blue Dbl Cab, 4x4 Tacoma!

I see why you guys like these things, dang peppy.

So I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but basically, I was "out the door" for about $29.5k after taxes, tags, title etc...
It's the SR5 "model", a few extra bells and whistles.

No screwing around this time, though they tried to upsell on perma-coat this and warranty that, didn't bite on any.

Will post pics tomorrow, can't wait to figure out my first mod, hmmm.

Thanks for all the speedy and helpful replies, I think I made the right choice on trucks and forums.

    Yeehah!

Not a bad price at all. I got my 2010 at this time last year and paid $28,250 or so for my SR5 on paper (meaning, before my trade-in), but that's before taxes. Works out to be about the same as what you paid after taxes.

Dealer kick back check, last time I heard, was $2 grand. I bought mine for 250 over invoice, AND got it certified used for 100k mile warranty. Pimpin the system :D

Dealers will be hesitant to sell at invoice.... Just go between two or three dealerships. Get a quote from one, go to the next one and ask them to beat it.... go to the next one and ask THEm to beat it... its a viscious cycle that WILL work.

They get more kickbacks than you think...... Depends on the situation.

That's how you bargain....sooner or later, a dealership is gonna WANT your business, even at invoice.

I had a Dodge Ram that I was trying to sell as a private sale, but I couldn't sell it. My last asking price for it (privately) was $19K. The dealership gave me $19K for the Dodge, Invoice for the tacoma, AND I paid the truck off IN-FULL that day - so they didn't make anything on a loan.

They made their kickbacks. They made a few thousand dollars on the Ram when they sold it a couple days later and they got one hell of a dedicated customer for future purchases. I'd say...they knew what they were doing.

'kickback' is a totally false characterization. They are incentives that the dealer is legally entitled to and will be accounted for just like any other in their P/L.

The dealer isn't in this to lose money. 'Invoice' is indeed a gimmick (a helpful gimmick, at least) but there are several other ways to find out true cost to the dealer (Consumer Reports used to be one of the best) to get the information to negotiate.

In the end you'll man-up and pay what the market will bear regardless of how you negotiate, walk away, or worse still drive away with it thinking you paid way too much even if you a got a good deal. Your job is to know the market and that is where most people fail miserably.

I agree. I keep using the word kickback too but forgot the negative connotation. They are indeed incentives. Let's try to get the lingo right :)
