I'm interested in just removing it altogether and replacing it with an SR5 cubby.

Wow got this guy in the arm rest and it works perfectly. There’s a wire that connect to inside the cigarette adapter and it charges my iPhone 12maxpro with thick case!

@BruTaco Good find. Nice solution for a truck that didn't come with the built in charger.

Most generic ones are by default. It doesn't know if you're trying to charge a Samsung or iPhone, etc. So, thus, it can't properly adjust to the right output. That all ignoring the fact that it can't properly dissipate heat, which is the issue people who have tried to replace this with a better solution have run into. It's not limited to Toyota.

It does have a button to turn it on and off which is great. But.... It still turns on every time you start the car. Dunno if that's a bummer for you. It does work better than the OEM Qi charger. My phone case on my iPhone 12 promax won't let me charge for the oem location so although I fixed it with the rubber cement the arm rest charging area is still the winner for me. The other thing I do like about this little tray is that it's actually .5" deeper than another brand tray I bought on Amazon. More useful in my eyes. Also the wire is not perm fixed to the tray it's actually a usb c plug on the bottom which is also a plus because you can put any length wire you like. Hope that helps.

Any chance you're using this with a wireless CarPlay headunit? I'm looking at a Pioneer and not sure what the range on the "wireless" is (it requires using the headunit's GPS antenna for wireless AA/CP...)

This charger seems like a good improvement, but might move the phone too far out for that sweet wireless connectivity.

Ahh unfortunately not. The good thing is Amazon sells it so at least you could refund if it doesn’t work.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
Every time I hit a bump or pothole, it caused my phone to jump just enough to lose contact with the pad. So it would stop charging for a second until it realized the phone was on the pad again and it re-engaged. Super annoying.

I tried that for a few days and gave up on it. Now I just use it for a cubby to hold my phone while it's hooked up to Android Auto via USB cable.

So I just did the same, going to let it sit over night. shockingly easy to get out of the truck. Honestly hardest part was the little push down clip on my shifter knob was stuck. We’ll see how the spray adhesive works.

so far so good, still heats up more than I’d like. But I’ve also installed a DMM so I’m not using it nearly as much, but that damn bubble is gone so I’m happy.

Exactly! I kept a lot of pressure on it and let it set for probably close to 24 hours and I think that was secret.
