I have an 06 Tacoma, 6 cyl, 2wd and the check engine light came on. Put the code reader on it and it gives code P0430 (Catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 2). I've spent the better part of the week googling it and trying to figure out the culprit. Not finding much info on how to read the freeze frame data.
There's no performance issues with the vehicle, no smoke, haven't found any visible leaks around the cat(s).

P0430 means the bank 2 catalytic converter is no longer functioning effectively, it does not mean it's plugged so you wouldn't see a performance problem besides the code being stored.
Most likely the bank 2 catalytic converter has failed if there is no exhaust leaks and the AFR and O2 sensors are working properly.

Bad cat. What caused the failure? Many times it's AFR. If you have an exhaust leak before the sensor, your AFR will think it needs to dump more fuel in to that bank. This causes fouling. Over an extended period of time, the cat will be saturated in excess unspent fuel. Also, can be bad sensors causing the imbalance as well. Their service interval is 100k miles. I recomend oem or denso sensors. Change those out first if you already haven't and see if there is a change, unless of course you do have an exhaust leak at the manifold, then you'll need to repair that. There are ways to regenerate the cats by cleaning them. There may be a local service, or even I've heard of folks smoking the catalyst in lacquer thinner to clean them.

For us idiots. Bank 2 would be passenger side header converter correct?

Bank 2 is left (drivers) side.

I went through this years ago and after replacing the cat the problem was solved.
Took the OEM cat to the local scrap guy was told that these cats are designed to make it just past the warranty period. He checked the numbers on the cat and they fall under a category called "low grade foreign" Thanks Toyota
I got $30 for it
