My dealership refused to apply the TSB because they couldn’t replicate any issues on a 5 minute test drive. Toyota Customer service refused to do anything about it as well. My Vin is listed on the TSB so I assume it applies. Am I out of luck?

Keep bothering your dealer, try another dealer, find a TW member in your area to flash it, flash it yourself. (Plenty of info on TW for how to do it)

If your truck is a 2020 you may already have it,I know my 2020 has it from the factory and it has a built date of 08/20 ,I used my innova 3030 code reader to verify .

You might be able to find someone in your area that will do it for you.
In the first post of this thread there is a list of members who will do this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ovt-flash-feelers.672354/
Perhaps one of these kind Folks is near to you.

Or, ask around in the Regional Discussion Thread for your local area to find someone:

What is your build date? It’s on the inside of your driver door. My diagnostic sheet from the ECU flash states this enhancement has been active since June 2020. So I am assuming trucks built from that point forward automatically were built with the enhancement included.

Well i dropped off my 18 for fuel pump recall and they didnt get shipment-was a little pissed.I mentioned this TSB number and said it didnt apply but would see what they could do.They gave me a new TRD for a loaner and called later with a update and said they did the update and first inline for tomorrows fuel pump delivery.
We will see tomorrow on what update they did.

Mine is actually 6/2020 so it’s definitely possible I have it. The dealer wouldn’t even check to see if I had the latest software and judging by how awesome everybody is saying it drives with the update I assume I don’t have it...and if I do I can’t imagine how badly the ones without it drive

Here's an unscientific way to see if you have the old or new build.

    1) Starting from a stop and mildly accelerating thru gears 1-4 if after each upshift the rpms fall to 1100rpms then it's probably the old build.

    2) Slowing down for a turn and then coming out of the turn you give it some gas and for a half second feels like there is nothing responding then it's probably the old build.

Awesome, I'll definitely try number 1. As for number 2 I feel like when I come out of a turn it IMMEDIATELY upshifts and feels like it falls flat on its face so I suspect its the old build.

    thanks for the tips

Is this ECU update just for 2019 and 2020 year vehicles? From skimming the thread, most people are mentioning those 2 years.

I'm rocking a 2017, so was curious.

    A few.
I dont know if this will help anyone but I scheduled my appoimtment online on the dealers website. I entered gear hunting/excessive shifting as the reason. Printed out the tsb and took it with me.

When i arrived and spoke to the service adviser, I stated that I had been experiencing excessive gear hunting for a while and I knew there had been tsbs for the older years for that issue with the latest one being released in 2018. And I just found out about this new one for the 2019/2020s that just came out in september and Im interested in having it done.
They took my truck straight in and installed the new update without road testing it.

You can go to Auto Zone (and some other Auto Parts Stores too) and use their OBD2 Scanner to confirm your current ECU ID (Calibration ID).

Or, buy one for yourself - it's a handy tool to have.

If your truck is a 2016, then this TSB doesn't apply.

Check this thread for more info regarding which TSB's apply to which years (especially the Spreadsheet):

Since so many asked about this, I checked the SAE and ISO standards for OBD2. It does have powertrain ECU calibration ID via Mode $09. It will likely be listed as "vehicle information" in the menus of the code reader. All but the super cheap (~$15) readers will indeed pull your calibration ID (CID).

Yes, my OBD2 Scanner shows my ECU ID (Calibration ID) under the "Vehicle Information" menu.

My 2020 limited has a 03/2020 Mexico build date and it had the update. I bought a cheap $35.00 scanner at Harbor Freight to determine this. My vin number was listed on the TSB even though it had the update already.
