Hopefully will find time to have this and the fuel pump done after Christmas.

Had my 19 start having a slight loss in power when accelerating. Also would rev up higher without speeding up like normal during turns. Hoping the pump doesn't just shit out in the mean time. lol

Just picked up my truck from Toyota of Carlsbad (CA). Report states that the technician couldn't duplicate the problem. Says the transmission shifts normal and it's likely due to my bigger tires and lift.

Guess I'll try to do it myself.

That is such poor CS. I’m guessing the dealer doesn’t get reimbursed from Toyota for performing TSBs like they do warranty work? I flat out told them when I went in for my fuel pump that they are not authorized to do anything unless they complete the TSB, I’d take it somewhere else.

The WOs that were posted in the Update thread all show 0.4hrs of billed work. Given that it is less than 10min to flash ATs and about half that for MTs, it should be a money maker for the shops even on straight book time including a coffee break.

This!! I'm gonna try to take it to another one up north that I've always gone to. We'll see what happens. If that doesn't work, I'll quit being lazy and do it myself!!

Had this done today. Not without effort. Hat tip to Toyota Care who stopped a dealer dead in his line of bullshit and got the TSB done. 2019, late 2018 build.

Took the truck in this morning. Was told "no problem". Got a call 5 hours later at noon - "Toyota won't approve the TSB because we can't replicate the problem".

I called Toyota Care, was on hold for about 8 minutes and then spoke to a Care Specialist. She listened and then transferred me immediately to a Case Manager (?) who listened to my story, put me on hold for about 5 minutes, then proclaimed that the dealer was full of shit.

Per Toyota Care, the TSB does not require replication by a tech, it requires two things:

(1). that the vehicle VIN falls within the prescribed TSB range.
(2). that the customer has verified an issue as described in the TSB.

Per Toyota Care, this is not a production issue that may or may not be present in a specific truck, it is a programming issue that affects all vehicles within the VIN range. The only variable is whether the owner has an issue with it. Toyota Care asked specifically for the name of the service advisor and the service manager I spoke to. Asked me if I wanted to open a complaint against the dealership (yes). I also told them that since I was in the giving mood that I had two other complaints for them for past issues. The took them down and sent me case #s via email

Cut to the chase, 10 minutes after I got off the phone with the Toyota Care Care Manager, the dealer called and said that Toyota has miraculously "approved" the TSB.

When I went to pick up the truck from the cashier, the service manager came out with the paperwork and said it was a "misunderstanding" and that "the TSB was applied.

As for the TSB...big difference. I've been driving this thing for two years in S4/S5 mode with ECT. Drove around for an hour in D without ECT and the truck shifts and accelerates 100% better. Holds gears longer and is much less restless. Highly recommended.

BTW, stay the hell away from Toyota of Walnut Creek. Lying liars who fucking lie.

Thanks for this. I didn't think about calling Toyota Care. I submitted an email complaint. We'll see where that goes.

Keep in mind this particular dealer has a great sales department, but the shittiest service department I ever dealt with.

    1. When I bought the 2019, I negotiated a pro(seur) grill and install as part of the deal. Basically $200 for the package. I bought the truck. They called two days later and told me the grill was in. Dropped the truck off. 9 hours later they called and said they could not install the grill because they couldn't get one with an OR VIN. I showed up, pointed out they received the grill, the garnish, the harness etc. Then they changed their story and said that the cost of the recalibration of the sensor was not negotiated and without a recalibration, they could not install it. I told them I'd take the grill and install it myself. I swear I am not making this up - they then said they didn't receive the grill the grill because of the VIN.

I told them that was fine, could I have my $200 - their answer, it was not for the grill. It was the totality of the negotiated price in which the grill was part of. At this point I had the manager of the dealership brought in wherein their story changed again. They had the grill, I was refusing to pay for a calibration. I still have the emails and retroactively filed a case with Toyota today.

    2. Took the car in for the free 10K oil change and told them NOT to rotate the tires because they are ham-handed hacks. Guess what? They rotated the tires and scratched the hell out of my F5s. I immediately called the service manager over who said they HAD to rotate the tires by law. I called Toyota Care who disputed that. They contacted the dealership who offered me an apology plus a certificate for a free oil change (face palm) but refused to fix the wheels. I ended up getting them fixed on my own dime. Saved all emails and pics, forwarded to case manager at Toyota today.

    3. Took my wife's 2018 T4R in for some warranty work. Service Manager called and noted we were at 20K miles and did we want the free oil change. I said No. Wife picked up the car. In the morning found puddle of oil under it. Looked at the ticket and I'll be fucked, those assholes changed the oil and mispositioned the canister gasket. Called manager who claimed they didn't change the oil...emailed him copy of service ticket that showed we refused the oil change and then showed that they changed the oil. they asked me to bring it back in and I told them I'd deal with it. Service Manager called back and offered us free wiper blades to not make a complaint. Told him fine. Wife went in to pickup wiper blades and was told we'd have to pay for them - but would get a 10% discount.

Confronted the serviced manager who claimed it was all a misunderstanding. Sent an email to the VP of the dealership group with a timeline of events and got an apology - nothing else. Opened a ticket and sent correspondence to Toyota today.

Par for many dealers, don't own their work and most people roll over as they make out like bandits. When someone does call them out, they offer something free as if you have some desire to come back.

The free oil changes aren't free, you pay for it many times over with their mistakes, and up sales.

Blast them on survey's, call Toyota corporate. If you fancy, small claims can be really easy to self file, they straighten real quick to those. Sounds like you have everything you need for a valid claim.

Hate to say it, but my 2020 is already updated to the version in this TSB B8100, and it still suffers from hesitation. I've not had the shifting problems or loss of power others have had, but my truck hesitates all the time. What I mean is when I'm traveling at a constant speed, say 35 MPH, the truck feels like it is jerking or almost like the brakes are being hit for a split second every 5 seconds. Another way to describe it is like being in a manual transmission going 20 mph in 6th gear and you press on the gas pedal. The vehicle just hesitates and jerks. I can press the pedal down and force a downshift and everything is great. The truck downshifts and picks up steady speed. However, let off and maintain a steady speed again and the hesitation and jerk returns. If you let off the gas pedal all is smooth again. So if you are WOT or coasting the world is a peaceful place, but try and maintain a steady speed and you want to crash the truck into a brick wall. I've had the dealer reset the ECU and this helps for about 2 months, but then the truck goes back to the hesitation. The dealership put in a report with Toyota letting them know that I'm at the new ECU version B8100, but still having the same hesitation. The dealership reset my ECU again today and it is driving with just a bit of hesitation. However, I know from past experience it won't last. Toyota needs to find out what is really wrong and do a massive recall to fix it. This is a fantastic truck but it sucks to drive with the constant hesitation. I've never had a truck or car do this.

Out of curiosity, have you had the fuel pump recall done? I've heard a few people here say their trucks had less hesitation after the new fuel pump was installed.
